<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Given the chance to apologize last night for his recent comments on dogfighting, Clinton Portis didn't. Instead, the Washington Redskins running back continued his defense of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, who reportedly is involved in dogfighting. Portis, hampered by an ailing knee and shoulder, wasn't at Redskin Park for the third week of organized team activities, but he granted an interview to NFL Network. "I wasn't condoning dogfighting," Portis said. "Hunting is legal. You've got spearing sharks and 'The World's Greatest Catch' on TV. All those are animals. What I'm saying is that I don't think that issue is as big as they made it with the jail time and the consequences he's going to end up facing if proven guilty. Wait until it's proven to jump on the bandwagon. "What I was saying was that there are bigger issues than what Michael Vick does on his own property. Now all of a sudden, I'm getting all the negativity, and I don't even have any dogs. I think the whole situation is blown out of proportion." Portis' comments Friday in which he said dogfighting behind closed doors was OK were deemed "dangerous and reprehensible" by the Humane Society of the United States yesterday. "The NFL should demand an explanation and hold the star running back accountable for endorsing an activity that is a felony in 48 states," HSUS said in a statement. "Portis' statement is not only insulting to law enforcement and humane societies nationwide working to protect animals ... from the violence of dogfighting, it is also a highly troubling indication that some professional football players see nothing wrong with the activity. The flippant way in which Portis dismissed the cruelty of dogfighting and the allegations against Vick are a sign that the subculture has taken root within the NFL ranks and is not being seriously addressed by the league." NFL commissioner Roger Goodell -- attending league meetings in Nashville, Tenn. -- said, "I'm very concerned about these issues surrounding Michael." Portis -- when asked on the NFL Network about Goodell's recently strengthened player conduct policy -- spoke out again. "You can't ask everybody to walk a straight line," Portis said. "People are going to want to do what they want to do. If they get in trouble, they've got to deal with the consequences." The Redskins issued a statement critical of Portis saying they "would obviously never condone anything related to animal cruelty. The team takes the recent comments of Clinton Portis very seriously and apologizes to everyone that was offended."</div>

I think his reason is retarded. "Oh we're at war in Iraq and have school shootings at VT. We should worry about that only and not about Michael Vick fighting dogs." Tard. Im sure Vick is a role model to alot of young kids out there that want to grow up and be a football star like him and his tard ass does all this stupid shit? Suspend his ass already, and get Portis to shut the fuck up.
Oh my God... who cares about this dog fighting crap? If it was some random dude doing it, no one would know. But since it's the most dominant player in the league (don't even try to argue that -- I never said he was the best, or one of the best) and most hated player (just like Kobe raping that chick... great example) people like NFLC members go crazy about it. I mean, it's not like I support dog fighting (I get sad when I crush an ant), but leave Vick alone... he can do what he wants. Plus, like Chris Samuels said, the Skins apologized and were joking.

They should be 100% angels, especially fuckin Vick who is a superstar and has a $100 million contract. What the fuck kind of message does Vick fightin dogs give to regular people about the NFL? And Portis defendin himself sayin people should mind their own business, well sorry Portis but he's a damn star. Do you see media and reporters goin easy on actors? If they dont want the damn spotlight on them then maybe they should consider a different profession. Vick who is an idol to many young football players, should not be flippin off fans, sneakin weed onto a plane, or fightin dogs. Portis needs to shut the fuck up and worry about his injury. Portis was not jokin, Samuels didnt tell anyone to mind their business he just said Vick wasnt convicted yet. Maybe if Portis didnt wanna get the words idiot, moron, dumbass, and etc thrown at him; then he shoulda kept his mouth shut or just said no comment or he wasnt convicted yet.

Dog fighting deserves no support or justification. That's like saying "what he does to his own kids in the privacy of his own home..." It's absolutely reprehensible, and I'm not a moralist.
Hmm.. only the Redskin fans try to play it down and make it seem like Dog Fighting is a good thing. Go move to Korea with that one guy if you think that.
Seriously, quit defending your retarded RB. He's got to be depicted as a huge jackass for saying what he said, especially making comments about shows on TV. The shows on TV are the use of hunting and killing animals for a purpose, not for injuring an animal. Injuring an animal forces the animal to feel pain over a certain amount of time, and the person has no purpose in use of an injured animal. A dead animal on the other hand, can be used for much more. Him relating it to killing sharks is just as retarded as you defending him and Michael Vick.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Column: a New Low - Dog Fighting By NANCY ARMOUR AP Sports ColumnistBefore Clinton Portis opens his mouth again to make light of dog fighting, maybe he should know something about what he's defending. Two dogs, bred to be hyperaggressive toward other dogs, nip and bite each other until one gets a firm hold. With its jaws firmly clamped, it will shake its head violently, ripping the other dog's flesh and tissue apart. This can go on for as long as two hours, the fight only ending when one dog is either dead or has quit. There's little difference, because a dog that quits is useless to its owner and is as good as dead, anyway. The "winner," meanwhile, doesn't escape unscathed. Gaping, bloody wounds, shredded muzzles and broken front legs are just a few of the usual battle scars."This isn't like when you're at the dog park and a couple of Labrador retrievers get into a quick tiff over a stick," John Goodwin, of the Humane Society of the United States, said during a telephone interview Wednesday. "This is something organized, with dogs that are bred for this specific purpose, that just tear each other to pieces."According to Portis, though, there's "no reason" to go after Michael Vick for dog fighting. They're Vick's dogs and Vick's property, the Washington Redskins running back said. The man should be able to do what he wants.Portis' comments were as offensive as dog fighting itself. They're the epitome of the permissive arrogance that turns people off to pro athletes. Spinning it, the way agent Drew Rosenhaus tried to do Wednesday, only makes it worse.Let's leave Vick aside for the moment. Authorities are still trying to figure out exactly what happened at his former home in Virginia, and he's entitled to the benefit of the doubt until the investigation is finished. But Portis is a different story.During a TV interview Monday, Portis said if Vick winds up being punished, authorities would be "putting him behind bars for no reason - over a dog fight." He added that dog fighting is everywhere, as if that somehow made it OK."I know a lot of back roads that got a dog fight if you want to go see it," he said. There are a lot of things that are available in a lot of places. It doesn't legitimize them or make them any more palatable. There's a reason dog fighting is illegal in all 50 states and a felony in 48 of them. It's a blood sport, and it's a death sentence for thousands of dogs each year. In Los Angeles alone, more than 2,800 pit bulls and pit bull mixes were euthanized last year, according to LA Animal Services. Even dogs that are "rescued" during raids often wind up being killed because they've been bred to be so aggressive.Dog fighting is barbaric, reprehensible and cruel. Some excuse it by saying it's similar to boxing. There's one big difference: Anyone who steps in a ring has made a conscious choice to do it."We're talking about live animals here," Goodwin said. "If we're going to have animals in our home as our family members, we have an obligation to treat them right. I don't know if I can get that across, though, to someone who doesn't have a problem with dogs fighting each other to the death."As soon as his comments got some air time, Portis backpedaled at warp speed. In a statement Monday night, he said he would never condone dog fighting. Sure, just erase everything he said a couple of hours earlier. The Redskins apologized on his behalf Tuesday. On Wednesday, it was Rosenhaus' turn."I like the fact that Clinton stood up for another athlete, but I want to clarify that he in no way, shape or form condones dog fighting or any type of illegal activity," Rosenhaus said. "I spent the last day or so with Clinton trying to get that message out."Here's a thought: Maybe that time would have been better spent making sure Portis doesn't say something stupid in the first place. There's no excuse for what Portis said, and he and Rosenhaus are making it worse by trying to find one. Some things are simply indefensible, and anything that spills blood in a vicious, violent manner falls under that category. This isn't a hard concept to grasp. Senseless brutality is senseless brutality. Whether it's against a dog or a person is beside the point.</div>http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/F/FBN...-AP-Sports.html

So funny how none of you can read whenever it's Redskins related. You always seem to say that I say and do things I don't and all that. If Peyton Manning said what Portis said, no one would care, just like no one (except for NFLC) cares about what Portis said. But seriously, it's not like Vick was hurting the pitbulls... the two pitbulls were.If Vick was there in the audience, would he be doing anything wrong?
