But, On the All-Time Yankees, he definately ranks after people like Ruth, Mantle, DiMaggio, Gehrig, Ford, and Berra. He's among the Second Tier of Yankees though among people like Maris, Mattingly, Rizzuto, Jackson and Guidry. Where does Jeter rank in the MLB today? Honestly, I have a hard time taking him over someone like Pujols, Howard, A-Rod, Ortiz, Guerrero, Morneau as they are all the complete package as a hitter in all aspects of that role. Even in Jeter's class though, I'd probably take players like Jose Reyes, Carl Crawford or Hanley Ramirez first. I'd probably end up ranking Jeter somewhere between 10 and 20 of hitters in the Major Leagues today. And that's not even including pitchers like Santana, Halladay, Peavy, or Oswalt. And if I was building a team from scratch I would likely pick somebody still in his Early 20's like a Jose Reyes, David Wright, Miguel Cabrera, Hanley Ramirez, Brian McCann, Felix Hernandez, Joe Mauer, Matt Cain or Cole Hamels (Man, there is alot of great, young, talent in the NL East). Hell, I could go on and on here with people like Dontrelle Willis, Prince Fielder, Jered Weaver, Justin Verlander, and Grady Sizemore as well. The reason being is that Jeter is essentially a Glorified One-Tool player. Great Contact Hitter with Average Power, Average Defense (Which is constantly overrated by the media), and Average Speed (Although to his credit he is still a force on the basepaths thanks to his ability to carefully pick and choose his spots). He is also a Good/Great Clutch Hitter, but if I'm building a team I need someone who can get my team to the playoffs over someone who shines when his teammates get him there.

So, Venom, do you agree with my note that Jeter is a horrible defender? The numbers don't lie.

I did some number crunching, found only 4 current SS w/ at least 1,000 innings there have worse range than Jeter
