They will get rid of him if he actually decides to go through with this.He deserves more money, he has definitely shown what he is worth.However, he has shown that he is NOT a team player by any means.

It's not about not being a team player, it's about beig taken advantage of by your team who you were loyal to. If your work screws you on, say health insurance, would you be so kind as to do everything you could for that company?
Asante Samuel was in line for an 80 million dollar contract much like Nate Clements was.....especially considering he's a better Cornerback then Clements is. I cannot blame him at all for being pissed for being Franchise Tagged, If he was to suffer a career ending injury next year (Which is very much possible in this buisness) he would miss out on the chance to financially set up his entire family for life. Especially when the Patriots have made little to no attempt to lock him up long term (I don't think they have any intention of doing so unless he signs a Hometown Discount). It reminds me alot of the Deion Branch situation last year where he held out wanting a new deal and they eventually shipped him off to Seattle when they realized that he wasn't going to bend in his demands.
He's just waiting till his team is in playoff contention. Until then its vacation time! Not a bad idea.

Just about every long-term contract has the last few years of the contract being where there is little to no chance of him seeing those dollars, but they count anyways. For example, You really think Nate Burleson is seeing 49 million from the Seahawks? Hell no, he will be cut before those 3 backloaded years ever occur and end up making about only 10 million for those 4 years of work. It's almost standard practice in the NFL nowadays, just because the 49ers did it doesn't make it a damn bit different then when any other team does it. The total value of the Contract is still 80 million dollars. Plain and Simple. To argue otherwise just makes you a homer. When Asante Samuel goes to the bargaining table, he isn't going to ask for 64.1 million because there's no chance that Nate Clements will ever see the end of his deal. He is going to ask for 80.1 million because he wants to be the highest paid Cornerback in the NFL.
