<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>FOXBORO - Asante Samuel [stats]has a solid case for seeking a cash bonanza from the Patriots : If they won?t pay him what he wants, he knows other teams will. And one just might be the New York Jets. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, ?several teams? have expressed a willingness to meet Samuel?s asking price, which is a contract in the neighborhood of the eight-year, $80 million deal free agent Nate Clements signed with the 49ers.</div>http://patriots.bostonherald.com/patriots/...amp;format=textWith a league high 10 INT's in 2006 (tied with Champ Bailey) Samuel entered an elite category in terms of CB's in the NFL. If New England won't pay him what he wants, if seems New York would be more than willing to. What an addition he would be.
I'm perfectly willing to pay him... after this season when we don't have to pay a king's ransom in trade to get him.
Theres no chance the Patriots would trade him in division anyways. The Jets are doing the same thing they did with Deion Branch. Showing plenty of interest in the player to make him know that his grounds for a holdout are legit. Then will lowball the Patriots in an trade offer and either watch Samuel hold out, or be traded away elsewheres. It's not a bad strategy on the Jets part at all, weaken the opponent.
