It's pretty ironic because I don't believe in "God." And why is there a reason to believe in "God?" He killed off my entire family besides me and my mother, yea thank him for me.

If your dad or siblings would still be alive today, maybe they would be suffering from cancer right now. Or maybe they would've got in a car accident that would've killed Brian Calhoun and many others, not just your family. And it's not God that killed your dad. You gotta understand that. There's Satan you know...You know how you're probably all like, "Damn, this is evil... this is so horrible" ? Well how do you know what's evil if there wasn't something great... like God. You couldn't separate good from bad if there was nothing beyond good, when you already know that there is evil. Right now, you're in the perfect position for help, and don't take that as a bad thing (because you know what I mean). If you need help, you know who to look up to.

For me, all evidence points away from the christian idea of god. Just my personal opinion... not an attack or anything. I do completely understand that some people need religion though. It helps them live and that is a good thing.
That's the way I feel. Why the hell do people look up to some fake resource that allows death and things such as genocides to happen? Death is a good counter-balance to birth rates and things, but why the hell should we be allowed to suffer? Why do people stab others, shoot, rape, etc.? Unless you can give me a reason, there is no reason for me to believe in a "god" or god-like figure.
On Studio 60 last week, Danny Tripp (Bradley Whitford) gave a "powerful" speech against praying. Wish I could find the script.
The thing that gets me is the whole "organized religion" thing. The actual message of Jesus is great. Don't kill people, do good works, etc etc. With christianity and other religions the problem comes with the followers. These people are constantly interpreting the words and basing their entire lives off of these words. Then they interpret them and come up with ideas like god hates gay people. The actual person Jesus probably wouldn't want his followers all wrapped up in petty stuff like that, rather work toward advancing and helping people. Then there's the people that are missionaries and help people "with a catch" and come to help people with their christian message in hopes of converting them. Ugh..Then there's the whole two religions working towards the same ultimate goal yet against each other. My brother and mother are both christians. I ask them all the time why the really great peaceful muslims, hindus, atheists etc who do good works and help less fortunate people aren't rewarded in the christian idea of afterlife even if they are working towards the betterment of society more than some christians. I don't understand why there can be a christian guy who sits on his ass all week, goes to church on sunday and lives out his boring life doing nothing while there's a muslim guy who goes to spread peace, helps poor people etc yet the christian guy gets to go to heaven while the muslim guy goes to hell.. whole scenario works in either direction. It makes no sense to me at all. To me organized religion is almost too selfish. It's all about how I can get to heaven and how I can make my afterlife the best. How about going around spreading peace and helping people make their current lives better, no catches that help YOU get in the good graces of this omniscient figure. I can be a very religious person on a personal level. I just don't believe in the spreading the message crap. When it comes down to it a lot of christians are hypocrites. I see this a lot living in the bible belt. Sorry for the rant.. lol
That wasn't really that much of a rant. It was pretty clear where you stand and how you feel. Personally I agree with you, but I'm not one bit religious at all. When I first learned the story of Jesus, I always wondered why all of a sudden people started believing in "God" just because of a man who died. I really do not understand to this day what the big thing about Jesus was. He was just another martyr, but he happens to be the biggest one in history of the entire human existance. Why is it that a lot of people in society say things like, "God damnit!" or "God bless you" (I understand where this came from, but why God?) or "God help us." Nobody is going to save you if you are about to die, the most that will happen is luck. If someone is holding a gun to a priest's head, will God save him? Probably not, but he happens to be a very big follower of him. Why is it that innocent people are usually the one's that die, and not the criminal or whatever it is they may be? There's never going to be a reason for me to look up to a mystical creature that supposedly determines our afterlife. Me, when you die, you're gone forever. And if there was an afterlife, it would be all the same people and there would be no reason to have died in the first place. The myth, yes it's a myth, of "God" has really trapped people into thinking life is the way Jesus said. But can somebody explain to me what religion was like before Christ? Why was it that some significant religious outbreak started after a martyr died, especially one that was no different than any other martyr? Why do Jews have different beliefs than the Christians, Muslims, etc. when these religions are supposedly based on history? Unless someone can come up with an amazing, detailed explanation to all of this and more that I can't see possible, there's no way anyone in my life to come will ever convince me of such a thing as God. You guys can feed off and answer my questions and comments, but it won't even sway my beliefs.
My personal belief is the following:There could be a god, there could not be a god. I really don't care. We should be using our time on the actual earth to do better things instead of bickering about an afterlife that no one is really sure about. If jesus was really the son of god and really was as smart as he made himself out to be, he would come down to earth and tell everyone to shut the fuck up and quit fighting each other over meaningless shit. Same with all the other prophets/messiahs of different religions. I completely understand why Muhammad would say "stop eating pork". At the time pork was disease ridden and was a main cause of death.. Is that still the case? no. However people take things that would make sense back then and transfer them over to modern times in which they make little to no sense. I just don't think you base your whole life off of a really old book.
LMAO at Punisher's comments. Satan doesn't kill people, dude. I don't even think there's a devil at all. He's just a symbol of evil, he's not really real. But the figure 'Satan' doesn't kill people. You gotta know that.
JHair, help me with these kids.I can't answer them on a message board. Ask me anything on AIM and I will answer it.
Yea help us for not following your personal beliefs. I feel sorry for all the people that pray to a fake power source, but hey, your choice.
Exactly how does that answer come?My main problem with religion is the leaps of faith people are willing to make for religion but when it comes to real life situations, suddenly that faith has gone out the window. Funny how when people say they have seen God, thousands of people believe them but when someone hears an imaginary voice in their head, they're deemed insane.Religion is also just one giant corporation. Want to know the highest grossing organization is? You guessed right, organized religion. Microsoft has nothing on them. Yet they aren't taxed cause it's considered a "donation" and not a "business enterprise" but they make a load of money every year. How come I can't say I'm providing a generous donation to companies in return for a product/service?Science will explain all of religion one day. Probably not in our lifetime, maybe not even in a thousand or two thousand years. But the rate that science is progressing, everything can and will be solved. Will there be a need for religion in the future if everything can be explained? Sorry but science and religion just can't co-exist.But I just don't get why you want to convert people. Let people "find their own way." A lot of my friends go to church but believe it's a load a crap and hate going cause it was force fed down their throats.I'm not someone that's against religion. Hey, if you want to do it, go ahead, I'm not going to stop you. Just don't try to be a missionary.
That's nice for you personally. Does god talk to you? Or do you look for god in "mysterious places". Its usually the latter. For me thats kind of making it what you want. But believe what you want. I'm not here to change anyone.
Why is it so rare to see a religious kid these days? Seems like every adult I know (at least the normal, nice ones) are all believers. And to answer your question to why I try to convert people...I want the best for everyone, and that just comes with being a Christian and a good man.Ehh whatever, I'm going to do what I was told by our pastor. I'll leave you guys alone. I won't fight back. I won the war before it even began. I'll let you guys suck at life.Seriously, if you want to say something, IM or PM me. Don't post here, I'm done.

Converting people doesn't work when people don't want to be converted. That's why mission trips don't work. Look a new house! Ahh ah ah... not so fast. You have to be Christian to get it! If everyone left each other alone and let them have religion on a personal basis things would be a whole lot better. I just don't believe in people being brainwashed by some larger body that's interpreting a book. Don't even get me started on catholicism... all hypocrisy. I mean, think of it this way. What if atheists and agnostics all came knocking on your door asking you to become an atheist/agnostic and that it was the "better way of life" and would make things better for you. How would that make you feel. Would you want them to go away and leave you alone and stop trying to convert you? Yes. Anyways... this all boils down to the christian right and the baptist south ruining organized religion for me. What a bunch of hypocritical idiots. That and the vatican.
