Espn asked Colin Cowherd, as the radio expert on the subject, to rank the top 10 college football programs in the past 10 years. He took into account total wins, bowl performances, big wins, conference strength, out of conference schedule strength, stadium environment, fan involvement, and current momentum. Here is the list he and his staff came up with:1. LSU2. Ohio State3. Southern Cal4. Florida5. Miami6. Texas7. Michigan8. Oklahoma9. Auburn10. FSUThe initial reaction was that Southern Cal should not be ranked third behind Ohio State and LSU, but Colin points out that in the late 90's the were not only a bad team, but a bad team in a worse conference. Much like FSU is now, except the conference was worse. The second response was that Georgia and VaTech have better overall records than some of the teams on the list over the past 10 years. Colin points to the lack of big wins and national championships for those programs for their being left off the list.
Still doesn't stop him from being an idiot. Miami had a few good seasons and completely flopped. No way they are ahead of us, none.
To be fair, LSU does have the BCS Championship from 2003. However, I do not think they don't deserve to be #1. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The initial reaction was that Southern Cal should not be ranked third behind Ohio State and LSU, but Colin points out that in the late 90's the were not only a bad team, but a bad team in a worse conference. Yeah, USC was bad for a longer period of time, but they were also better when they were at their best. They were the AP National Champion in 2003, and a Consensus National Championship in 2004, and made the 2005 Title Game as well. Whereas LSU only has one Co-Championship (With USC may I add) and a handful of lesser Bowl Wins. PS: How do you not take into account 'The Greatest Award in all of Sports' in the Heisman Trophy. To which USC leads 3 to nothing over LSU.
