QUOTE (CelticKing)

Yea but weed does more damage to the body and brain then alcohol. Proven fact. You go from weed to cocaine. From alcohol you go nowhere, you'll just stay drunk.
Say no to weed or any other drugs, they were made to destroy us. (by govt of course)

Actually, alcohol does more damage to the body than weed. Proven fact. Also, you will never overdose on weed. People die every year from alcohol poisoning, drunk drivers, and homicides while someone was under the influence of alcohol. Domestic violence, rape, date rape, need we continue? It's true a person could conceivably go from weed to cocaine, but there is no relation between them *other than* the fact that they are bought and sold in the same illicit market as each other. In other words, if the weed dealer was the local tobacco shop and not being sold on the side by the local crack dealer, then that theory dissolves.
Alcohol is the gateway drug in our society. All drug use, whether it be illicit or not, was preempted by alcohol use. Weed is medicine, and a mild recreational drug.

QUOTE (DolfanDale)

I'm not for adding any new legal drugs and would like to see people take alcohol consumption more seriously. Personally, I choose not to use any drug that my doctor hasn't prescribed for me and I don't drink alcohol. I don't find that I missing anything. Not having to schedule time for 12 step meetings leaves me a lot more time for watching football.

You should have the right to make that choice. What is good for you is not necessarily what is good for other adults. They should outlaw fried foods, and anything else that drives up health care costs. Should we go to such great lengths to protect people from themselves? I don't think so. If you want to smoke a pack of cigarrettes a day, and eventually die from lung cancer, then that's on you. The warning labels are printed on the side of every pack that you smoke. In school, they teach kids about that, as well as the dangers of not eating properly. Personally, I like having choices, it makes life more interesting for me and others.

The main difference is peple who are not partaking of Marijuana can become slightly under the influence of it. I donlt see why teh government would not legalize marijuana, they'd proabbly tax teh shit out of it and make it unaffordable just like everything thing else in life. NOTE: I personally do not support marijuana use nor have I ever had any.

Just get away from the smokers. Also, if you feel that you have to use weed around other people that do not appreciate the smoke, you can always just bake edible weed (brownies, and cookies are most popular). I've never actually tried this, but I have heard of people grinding up weed, throwing it into a frying pan with butter, and quickly melting it into the butter. Separateout the solids, refridgerate the butter, and you can bake anything you want with that butter. No second hand smoke.
I don't know where you all live, but in CA, smoking of any kind is banned in all public buildings, and the colleges force people to smoke a certain distance from any classroom building. Smokers are basically relegated to parking lots in many places here. If someone tries to smoke in my own house, I just tell them to go outside.

Cocaine and weed were once legal in this country. Alcohol was once illegal. In all three cases, when the government made the 'drug' illegal, organized crime found a way to make money on it, and the government went into the business of demonizing the substance as much if not more than the abuser. I have smoked (a lot) and snorted (a couple of times), but haven't done either for a very long time... longer than many of the posters on this site have been alive.... not interested in either. On the other hand, I am drinking a beer as I write this. I get where Dale is going, and working in the LA area I have seen many stomach turning and mind changing episodes, but just because a percentage of people can't maintain their lives, with or without a drug, doesn't mean that most of us can't.
Legalize and tax it all. Criminalize bad behavior just as with alcohol. The same goes for prostitution as far as I'm concerned.

Pretty much tried the lot except heroin...
Coke, Ketamine, MDMA, Speed, Weed (personal fave), Acid, Shrooms, Opium (smoked), datura, Nangs, poppers, mesculine, valium...
other than weed though, none I enjoyed to the point of constantly needing them. Weed I love and I enjoy the odd bit of Ket or MDMA but like once every 3-6 months. Alcohol? I have maybe 9 drinks a week on average. Each to their own, I recommend experimentation only when the intention is curiosity, not to 'fit in'. Non drug takers who are informed, who choose not to preach and empathise with those that do have my utmost respect.

First off I think it is completely ridiculous to say that weed leads to cocaine. I smoke weed probably once or twice a week on avg and i have never thought about doing cocaine and i never really plan to. Anyone who says that is either completely oblivious to life or they just have never experienced any type of drug use and they dont understand it so they go by what other people have said. Weed is such a mild drug its much milder than any other type of drug and doesnt have nearly the type of consequences on ur body as any other drug. It is also funny to me that people say that others are going to die or weed is completely horrible when it is proven by many that alcohol is so much worse for you. Did you know that there are receptors in your brain for THC (THC is the chemical in weed that gets you high). As someone said before there are tons and tons of deaths per year caused by alcohol. I wonder if you have ever heard about someone dying of weed overdose. You havent because it has never happened.

I think weed should be legalized it doesnt make sense not to and it would probably save the government more trouble than not.

Opium? Like a really heavy rock of the finest black hash you can get from Amsterdam with a slighly disturbing clarity of thought. My body was completely disconnected but at the same time was really in tune with it. Most pieces of information were more interesting than ever and the ability to understand even the most difficult aspects of any conversation were easily simplified. The come down sucked though, like a weekend on too many XTC tablets and felt heavily nausious for hours.
Morphine from the doctor is cleaner, there is not as big a comedown but it has less of a mental effect.

Non drug takers who are informed, who choose not to preach and empathise with those that do have my utmost respect.
I don't mean to offend, but, over the past 12 years, I've seen too many lives destroyed by drugs and alcohol to not point out the dangers of addiction when a thread like this pops up. I would hate to think that some of the younger readers in this forum come away from this discussion thinking that drug experimentation is a good thing. Of all the things that we can do for recreation in this country, it really bothers me that drugs is on that list. While some may chalk up addiction as being a problem for "weak" people, I think that answer is a bit simplistic especially when science is telling us that there may be a genetic component that makes some people more susceptable to addiction. Regardless, there is one truth that cannot be refuted. NO ONE ever plans on becoming a drug addict or an alcoholic. Once you fall into the hole of addiction, it may take a lifetime to dig your way back out.

QUOTE (Kid Chocolate)

Experimentation does not always lead to addiction, though.

I understand that, but no one really knows the exact cause of addiction. Therefore, people need to understand the dangers that come with drug and alcohol use. I'm just worried that some of our younger readers will read this thread and see it as a green light to experiment. That bothers me.
