So basically since he never signed with the Bucks, hes now going back to the Tigers and eligible for free agency or the 08 draft? If so, I wish no owner would take him.
I think hes going to re-enter the draft next year.
I agree with you though, its a tough situation he put the Bucks in but then again Milwaukee knew the risk.
They basically lost a lottery pick in the best draft in years.

I really feel sorry for Bucks fans... nothing goes their way. I lost lots of respect for Yi when he did that. I hope he's never able to get into the NBA
If he plays basketball on any team at all this next season, the Bucks hold his rights. The only way he can become a Free Agent and re-enter the draft is if he totally sits out the season and doesn't play on the Tigers, or any other team.

No, Yi said it was his decision to stay out of Milwaukee. Apparently he is afraid that he can't find a girlfriend there.
If he goes back to the Tigers, he remains as the rights of the Bucks.
If he does sit out, Bucks will probably trade him to the Bulls, Warriors, Kings, or Lakers (Clippers were one of the West coast teams, but I never heard them mentioned with Yi).

With the Bulls, they obviously wouldn't get prospects back, except maybe Thabo, but they could probably do something like:
Bulls Trade:
Chris DuhonViktar KhryapaThabo Sefolosha
Bucks Trade:
Dan GadzuricYi Jianlian
This trade, for the Bucks, would be a Dan Gadzuric salary dump trade, just picking up Thabo for a prospect (Thabo kind of loses some of his value to the Bucks since they just got Desmond Mason back).
Even better than that would be with the Lakers (the most obvious for a salary dump trade).
Lakesr Trade:
Kwame BrownMo EvansSasha VujacicBucks Trade:Bobby SimmonsDan GadzuricYi Jianlian
This would be almost a garaunteed done deal if it went on the table to the Bucks. It would give them about 21 million in capspace. (Bulls trade only opens up them to 10-12 million depending on if they picked up Thabo's option or not). But, the Lakers management has showed that they are tightwads, so I doubt this happens.
Warriors cannot offer cap relief, but can offer lots of young prospects. They're prospects are mostly bad fits for the Bucks, except B. Wright and A. Biedrins, and trading either would probably be a bad move.
So in the end, Isiah Thomas will try to look smart, trade David Lee for Yi, and look dumb in the end when Yi sits out and re-enters the draft because he doesn't want to join the Knicks.

The Bucks got screwed, they essentially had one of the worst records in the nba and got no draft pick. I didnt even know this could happen, why didnt they trade the draft rights like the chargers did with eli?
He can't re-enter the draft next year because Milwaukee holds his rights. The only ways they can lose his rights are as follows:
1. He plays overseas for the next four years (the time he would be on his rookie contract without an extension), and the Bucks would lose his rights at the same time he would have been a free agent if he had signed his rookie contract and played.
2. He doesn't play basketball for any professional team, anywhere.
3. Milwaukee volunatarily renounces their rights to Yi.
I do feel sorry for Bucks fans, but the Milwaukee Bucks got themselves in this position in the first place. Yi and his camp did not allow them to come to China for a workout, and they had made it clear they would not play for the Bucks. So, knowing all that, Larry Harris still decided to roll the dice and use the number six pick on him, and what happened? They probably will not get anything out of this, and even if they manage to trade him they won't get much of an offer because of the leverage other GM's would have in negotiations.
On the other hand, Yi has no right to control where he plays. He entered the draft, put himself in the position of possibly being drafted by a team he was not willing to pay for, and took that risk. He was drafted by the Bucks, and he should honor that and play for the Bucks. He is a rookie, and should have very little say, if any, in where he plays, and has no right to demand a trade in my opinion. If he really wanted to control where he plays that badly, he shouldn't have entered the draft and just entered the league as a free agent, allowing him to choose where he plays and allowing that team to discuss a buyout with his Chinese team.

My question is, if he sits out the season combined with his refusal to play in a small market with a low Asian population, does that hurt his draft stock?
It would have no effect on his draft stock because he can't enter the draft next year, but it will certainly hurt his reputation around the league... and that already has taken a big hit in my opinion.

Not sure where your getting your info from.

QUOTE (Real)

My question is, if he sits out the season combined with his refusal to play in a small market with a low Asian population, does that hurt his draft stock?

Yes that does hurt his draft stock, teams will be wondering if he will play in their city. So Many teams will question picking him because of his city standards...
