They are even happier that the FloridaMarlins just arrived. The Mets look to hold onto their slim lead in the NationalLeague East when they open a three-game series with the Marlinson Friday. New York attempted to rally from a 7-3 deficit in the ninthinning on Thursday, but fell short as Atlanta left fielderWillie Harris robbed Carlos Delgado of a game-tying home run topreserve a 7-6 win. The Braves (61-54) beat the Mets for theeighth time in 12 games and moved to within 3 1/2 games in theEast. Brian Lawrence (1-0, 5.40 ERA) takes the mound as the Mets tryto get back on track against the Marlins, a club New York hasbeaten six times in eight meetings this season. Lawrence made his first start since 2005 against the MilwaukeeBrewers on August 2, allowing three runs and eight hits in fiveinnings in a 12-4 win. Lawrence missed the 2006 season becauseof shoulder surgery. Lawrence will be opposed by rookie Daniel Barone (NR), who willbe called up from Class AAA Albuquerque on Friday.
