In an interview with InsideHoops, Marcus Williams talks about how Jason Kidd and Vince Carter not only helped him on the court but off it as well, saying Kidd in particular made him "a better person". Still, says the Nets' backup point guard, sitting for most of the season was difficult and frustrating. He doesn't expect more of the same this season, promising better decision-making and defense.

I'm optimistic on the Marcus Williams front.

After all of the skeletons tossed out about Kidd by his soon to be ex-wife, I find the statement that Kidd made him a better person extremely hilarious. As in, damn, how screwed up was Marcus if Kidd made him a better person.

What he's saying about his play sounds great...as long as he can back up his words.

Yep. What he's saying is great, but he's got to do it on the court. Let's hope he can.

They helped him be a better player on the court, not off the court. IMO.

i know it was summer league but i saw hardly any improvement on his defense. He still has time, but the season is coming soon.

You can say "wait till we see it on the court", but keep in mind that our second highest paid player is in near-constant denial of his weaknesses. At least Marcus admits that his defense needs work, and that it's his first priority.

Did this interviewer ever hear of a follow up question?

MW: Kidd made me a better person.

    Normal interviewer: Really? How so?

MW: I need to make better decisions and play better defense.

Q: So what are you working on this offseason?

MW: Getting in the lane and shooting high bank shots.

After seeing him for a season, maybe not as much as originally thought.
