LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- After breaking out with the bats, the LosAngeles Dodgers will search for a second straight win when theyaim for a split of their four-game series with the HoustonAstros on Thursday.


The Dodgers entered Wednesday's contest having managed a totalof 24 runs in their previous 12 games, but an offensiveexplosion led by Russell Martin and Juan Pierre resulted in a6-3 win.


Martin homered twice to push his season total to 14 and Pierrehad three hits, stole two bases and scored a pair of runs in thevictory, just the fourth for the Dodgers in the month ofAugust.


Los Angeles' 4-10 start to the month matches an identical markin 1998 as the team's worst start to August since moving toCalifornia from Brooklyn in 1958.


The Dodgers will be taking their swings against Wandy Rodriguez(7-10, 4.34 ERA) on Thursday. The 28-year-old lefthander hasbeen terrible on the road this season, going 1-8 with an 8.16ERA away from Minute Maid Park.


Rodriguez is 2-0 in his career against Los Angeles, winning bothgames last season while allowing a total of three earned runs.

Countering for Los Angeles will be sinkerballer Derek Lowe(8-11, 3.61). The veteran righthander has not earned a winsince June 22 at Tampa Bay, going 0-5 in eight starts despiteallowing one run or less four times.


The Dodgers' terrible month has left them 6 1/2 games behind theArizona Diamondbacks (68-53) in the National League West.
