MIAMI (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks bounced back from anembarrassing loss Wednesday. A day later, they hope tostrengthen their hold on the National League West Division.

The Diamondbacks look to win their ninth series out of 10 sincethe All-Star break Thursday when they visit the Florida Marlinsin the finale of a three-game series.


Arizona suffered a 14-5 loss in Tuesday's series opener butresponded with a 9-6 victory Wednesday.


Jose Valverde pitched the ninth inning Wednesday to pick up his36th save of the season. The 28-year-old righthander hasalready doubled his career-high of 18 saves and is tied withMilwaukee Brewers closer Francisco Cordero for the major leaguelead in saves.


Veteran Livan Hernandez (8-7, 4.85 ERA) takes the moundWednesday for the Diamondbacks, who have won 18 of their last 23games.


Hernandez has been hot of late, winning his last two outings andthree of his last five. The righthander faced the Marlins onJuly 24, allowing just one run over seven innings of a 9-3victory.


After making his major league debut on Friday, Marlins starterDaniel Barone (0-0, 3.86) will look for the first win of hiscareer on Thursday.


Barone pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs in 4-3 winover the New York Mets.


In 93 minor league games, the 24-year-old Barone struck out 311batters while walking 90.


The Marlins have won four of their last six games but are just8-13 since July 22.

MIAMI (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks responded with a 9-6victory over the Florida Marlins on Wednesday, one day afterbeing routed, 14-5, in the first game of the three-game set.

The Diamondbacks will look to win their ninth series in theirlast 10 since the All-Star break on Thursday, when they take onthe Marlins in the rubber game of the set.


Jose Valverde pitched the ninth inning on Wednesday to pick uphis 36th save of the season, tying him with the MilwaukeeBrewers' Francisco Cordero for the major league lead in saves.The 28-year-old Valverde has already doubled his career high of18 saves, which he accomplished last season.


On the season, Valverde has blown six saves, but has posted a2.92 ERA and held batters to just a .185 batting average.
