In an interview with the Boston Herald, Rod Thorn was asked how much time he sees Sean Williams getting this year. Thorn responded as he has before, that Williams needs more experience. But Thorn added that the Nets have been pleasantly surprised with Williams' offense and suggested the 6'-10" Williams could defend any of the three frontcourt positions. In an interview with the Boston Globe, Thorn raved about the Celtics' Big Three but added how Danny Ainge fills out the rest of the roster is critical.

Atlantic Division talent is oceans apart from last season's - Shira Springer - Boston Globe

Seriously though, how will the nets give him enough on-court time to get his skills sharp again?

I mean he looked like the tin man for the wizard of oz he was that rusty.

He should be sent to the D-League. He wont get any burn this year since there are more trust worthy bigs in front of him.

I think he'll get some minutes if he stays

    Krstic / Boone

    Magloire / Collins

And then Sean would be that rare rotating guy / garbage minute guy.

The D-League isn't a terrible idea. Thats where Raymond Felton is playing now right?

I dont know about Felton, but since Sean hasnt played organized ball for a while, I think its for the best. Maybe have him play a few minutes here and there during the beginning of the season so he gets some actual NBA experience, then ship him off to the D-League. The problem with that however, is that i think the D-league is mostly guard oriented, so chances are that it wont help him as much as we hope.

Alternative solution: see how he does in training camp being pushed around by Magloire and Collins and being outsmarted by Boone and Krstic. Sink, swim or be sent to the D-League.

One encouraging sign: that turnaround jumper he used effectively in the summer league?...He didn't have it at BC. He learned it. His great foul shooting in the summer league, 17 for 19 over five games?...he went from 50% to 70% at BC to 90% in summer league. He learned it. He is a smart guy who can learn quickly.

He isn't KMart, the national player of the year. He isn't Tyrus Thomas, who led his team to the national championship. What he is is a super athletic, 6'10" 20-year-old with a reported 7'5" wingspan (same as Oden if it is as advertised). Nets took a chance. Good for them.

agreed with all that. sean williams seems like a willing-to-learn player, a player that is seemingly not hard to teach (unless you're trying to teach him not to roll doobies in a van down by the river). i think he'll have a pretty good chance to do something good in this league.
