His line from Saturdays game:

    .1 inning pitched

    1 strikeout

    1 pitch thrown

Thats Right! He struck out the only batter he faced on 1 pitch....entering the game after a rain delay, he assumed the 1-2 count that Bob Howry had established on Chris Duncan and threw a single breaking ball that resulting in a swinging strike three....1 pitch, 1 K....

Several times I've seen a guy brought in, before throwing a pitch he had picked someone off.

1 out, 0 pitches, far more efficient.

Dividing by zero destroys any calculation, therefore there is no efficiency

... yes because we need a calculation here to determine throwing 0 pitches to record an out is better than throwing 1 pitch to record an out.

Other examples. Pitcher coming in, throwing a pitch that results in a double play. Sure it has been done.

The most extreme case of a triple play, never heard anything of it. Anyone know?

That has nothing to do with the hitter the pitcher is facing

I have found one occurance in which a pitcher got an out and recorded the win without throwing a pitch(BJ Ryan)....its debatable whether that can be judged as more efficent than Pig's appearance, but it wont matter because I found a more effecient performance anyway....the following is from baseball-fever.com:

Then there's this one from 7/27/1930

Cincinnati hurler Ken Ash throws one pitch in relief against the Chicago Cubs but got credit for a full inning pitched and a victory. Ash relieved in the sixth inning with two Cubs on base and nobody out, and promptly induced Charlie Grimm to ground into a triple play. All outs on tags. Ash was lifted the next inning for a PH, and the Reds scored 4 times, giving him the 6-5 win, his last ML win
