LOUIS (Ticker) - Adam Wainwright was the closer for thedefending World Champion St. Louis Cardinals last season. Now heis trying to lead them back to the playoffs as a starter. Wainwright, who has been St. Louis' ace, takes the mound onTuesday in the opener of a three-game series with the FloridaMarlins. Rick Ankiel homered for the fourth time in nine games and AlbertPujols homered for the third straight game as the Cardinalsavoided a three-game sweep at the hands of their division rivalChicago Cubs with a 6-4 win on Monday. The game was played on Monday because Sunday's finale was rainedout. St. Louis was eight games out of first on August 5, but has woneight of 12 and is just three games behind Chicago (63-60) andMilwaukee (64-61) in the National League Central.
