Thekneejerk "OMG" period is over, so what do you guys think about this trade now? Who made the better deal? How far will the Celtics go in the playoffs?

I personally don't think it matters who wins out down the road because it was a deal the Celtics had to make IMO. It was either being hollow contenders with Allen and Pierce's name value for 2-3 years, or they could get a top 5 player when noone else wanted. This move took stones, so I commend Ainge for stepping up to the plate even if the Celtics fall on their face. Celts fans can never say Ainge sat on his hands or whatever.

The Celtics fans needed this imo. If they prove to be an elite team in the East, then the trade was a success for them.

I keep on forgetting who the Wolves got in the deal, but they needed some rebuilding pieces and they got them. Cant say who the winner is yet. Depends on how well Boston does imo.

The true measure of the trade will not be able to be analyzed. Give it 3 seasons of time and if the celtics have endured a injury-ravaged run or a title we can analyze accordingly. Honesly though if McHale comes out on top, its by pure accident. He does trades I wouldnt do on NBA Live, let alone for real. Mike James for Juwan Howard? Huh?
Mike James was garbage for us last year. At least Howard provides some consistency.
This will all depend on whether the Celts win a title or not in the next few years, and if guys like All Jefferson and Gerald Green pan out into players McHale is hoping for.

I don't think the trade had a decided "winner." Each team did exactly what they needed to do. The Celts picked up a superstar post player to go along with their other stars, and Minny began planning for the future. Dropped a huge load off the cap, gained picks and at least one young stud (Jefferson), with a few others with potential. It was a good trade for each team IMO.

Sending Mike James is a good move no matter who we get from a possible Howard trade.

Each team accomplished what they wanted. The Celtics loaded up for a title run and Minnesota got Al, cap relief, and some young player who could turn into good players.
I prefer the side of the Celtics, because it helps them win now and win at a high level.
Advantage: Boston
