"We've been talking and talking for a while," Posey's agent, Mark Bartelstein, confirmed yesterday. "And while it's hard to get into specifics, yes, the Nets are in the running. I would think there will be a decision soon." Playing with Kidd is nice, but you can't blame him for signing with a place that could contend and pay him twice the amount.

While the Nets had only $1.85 million, the LLE, to entice Posey, they did have the $2.6M trade exception they could have used in a sign-and-trade. I think the thing the Nets weren't interested in was a second year at the player's option.

Also, while he would have been a nice addition,Ithink he may havepeaked as a player. He didnt play that well thisseason. Riley threatened him and Walker witha suspension if they didnt improve their conditioning and then didnt make much of an effort to keep him, calling him limited offensively. Didnt help him that he pleaded guilty to reckless driving last week either.

As for RubenPatterson, he is a vile a player as there is in the NBA...raping your nanny, having to register as a sex offender, beating up your wife, etc., etc. There is a reason a guy who defends well and went for 15 and 5 cant find a job.

    1) That's only two charges, not three, because having to register as a sex offender is a consequence of pleading guilty to attempted rape. He was also involved in a misdemeanor assault case in 2001 due to an altercation with a man who scratched his car.

    2) Outside the oversight of failing to register as a sex offender in 2007, Patterson has conducted no criminal activity since 2002. Kidd's domestic abuse charge was filed in 2001. We all seem to have forgiven Kidd for his criminal activity. Now, rape is a much more serious charge than domestic abuse (and Ruben's got that on his record too) but we're talking about no serious problems for 5 years. So I think it's safe to say he is a recovering criminal.

    3) Patterson is apparently an intense guy who, by all accounts, is very dedicated to winning. This doesn't automatically make him a SMART player, but it does mean he's an intense competitor, something any Vince Carter-led team could always use.

I dunno, maybe it's McInnis part 2. But I wouldn't be upset if I suddenly found out we signed him. He seems like he has the potential to really help teams he's on.
