Blum's blast helps Peavy gain tie for NL lead in wins

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) - Jake Peavy dominated the ArizonaDiamondbacks and Geoff Blum made sure he got rewarded for hisefforts.


Peavy threw seven terrific innings and Blum hit a go-aheadtwo-run homer in the seventh as the San Diego Padres posted a3-1 victory over the Diamondbacks on Monday.


Peavy (15-5), who tied Atlanta's Tim Hudson for the NationalLeague lead in wins, struck out seven in a row at one point and11 for the game.

"I was able to get some big strikeouts," Peavy said. "I justfeel like that's the way I've got to pitch. I can't go outthere and pitch to contact. The type of pitcher I am, when Itry to get them to hit it, I create problems for myself."
