it's a popularity contest no matter who votes. One of the most hated players in the league (Rodney Harrison) misses out on the probowl last year and he was arguably the best safety in the AFC if not the NFL. Ed reed was the only other safety in the AFC that was Harrison's class.

I assume your talking about Ed Reed SF and I agreed with him making it but not Brock Marion or...I'm blanking it was a Cheif....I think it was greg wesley. Neither marion or any def player on the cheifs deserved a probowl bid over harrison.

I always get a kick out of the O-lineman that get voted. I mean there's no real trackable stat. Success of their offense is how they can be judged. But it seems like the same guys make it year in and year out.

I agree that if you look only at tackles and assists Harison had more than Jerome woods (the KC pro-bowl safety) but Woods did much more with his 3 INTs than Harrison did (returning 2 for TDs.) and deflected many more passes, so I wouldn't exactly call it a snubbing. Woods was coming back from last years broken leg also which probably earned him a few votes on the merit of toughness. Heres how it broke down:

Tkls Ass. sack INT yds avg. Lg TD Def. Pass FFum KRavg
    Woods 58 18 0 3 125 41.7 79 2 32 3 23.2
    Harrison 92 34 3 3 0 0 2 0 8 1 25

Interesting stats... Harrison's a run support guy & Woods is a ball hawk...

Ok. I have a question, comment, another question or two, and maybe more comments... [IMG]

Do any of you guys actually watch the ProBowl anyway? It's a gimmick game to generate revenue. It doesn't really mean anything, and is generally boring. Players being named to the game (or not named) may have an effect on their bonuses, but even the players know that it is a matter of public perception, not playing ability that gets them in. The only time that changes is when a player declines (injury or whatever) and then a coach makes the choice for replacement. Anytime that you put voting for skill in the hands of the average fan, you get what you deserve: Players that the fans want to see, and consequently not the best players in the game at that point in time.

I never watch the Pro Bowl. I think it's a boring waste of time. But I do think it means something to the players especially when they get snubbed. No one likes their work to go unrecognized, even if you're making $1,000,000 a year....

Oh, I agree. Everyone wants to be recognized for their work and effort, especially if that recognition can turn into even more cash. I think that we are stuck with the system. The NFL can never take the vote away from the fan now.

Ouch... yes Chip, we should all live in a commune and share everything. That way no one has an identity and we can be invaded weekly with no defense because no one cares about protecting the commune. Don't forget the subpar health care we'd have and we can watch our middle class business owners get taxed out of existence.

After all that, we can sing Zip-A-Dee Do Da around the Campfire and eat S'mores... that is if we have enough to share between us in equal amounts. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Scary isn't it?

OK, it's the damn Democrats is you ask me... And the Republicans... And the FBI and CIA for not sharing information... And the Commissioner of the NFL... And that Bastard Vince McMahon for making a mockery of the game...

Uh, what were we talking about? Oh, yeah. The ProBowl.

I think that it's a stupid boring game and I don't watch it.
