Does Jamal Lewis's 500 yards against the Browns defense taint his total in any way, especially if he reaches 2000???? I think it takes something away from it a bit, since he got 25% of the total agaisnt 1 team....what do you guys think???
I don't think it takes anything away at all. I'll bet Eric Dickerson had over 400 yards vs the Falcons and/or Saints the year he set the record. Someone check that out please.
It means he still had 1500 in the other 14 games, so its not like Im saying its not a helluva season, but is it worthy of being only the 5th 2000 yard rusher in league history when he took advantatge of the Browns for 1/4th of the total????
I'm not sure which team it was but I saw a graphic yesterday and it something about dickerson running for almost 500 on the same team during his record season. I don't think it takes anything away because had he not messed his shoulder up and been able to practice for most of the season he may have already broken it. I think he needs like 150 in the last game to break the record.
Im predicting that he wont get to 2000 yards....for one reason...What do the Pittsburgh Steelers have to play for next week???? Only one thing, to prevent 2000 yards for this guy....I think with a week to gameplan for him, and with nothing to lose, they can hold him under 50 yards and prevent it from happening...
I'm sorry beef but he will have 2000 in the first half. I know Pitt is always tough on the run but to keep him from 53 yards is pretty tough. I don't care if pittsburg had a month to gameplan. They can bring as many people in the box as they want and baltimore will continue to pound it down their throat. I have watched alot of the baltimore games cus I had him on my fantay team. He has only had for sub 100 games ( 69yrds vs. Pitt) and the lowest total rushing yards was 68. If anything he has so much more confidence in his reads since week 1 vs Pitt. He is a machine and as I have said before this years Steve McNair since he hasn't been able to take contact in practice since somwhere around week 5-6. It would take an injury to stop him from breaking 2000 never mind the legitimate shot he has at Eric Dickersons record.
I say he'll break the record. They should be able to get a laed early (That's key) and after that we will see a heavy dose of Jamal. I don't doubt that his lineman want this record more that he does. It will happen ... I hope I get that game up here.
hell get it, who cares if he got 500 against 1 team, if u get 2000 youll have to get more yards at 1 team than another becasue theres only 16 games.
The Steelers won't let him get the record. He might break 2000, actually he should break 2000, but he won't break the single season record. Billick should have let him finish the game against Cleveland. He could have broken it there. I know you guys think otherwise, but the Steelers will hold him from getting 150 yards.
I'm not sure he'll break the record because the steelers if anything stop the run and stop it well but you must admit they are going to be facing an offensive line that will be as motivated as they have ever been with both the playoffs and a rushing record on the line. Ya you give all that, well the steelers don't want to end the season on a bad note and don't want to give up the record, thats all well in good but I doubt it will be enough to stop him from getting 100 yards but you never know. As for the 150 or so he needs that could be a stretch but it is possible.
The reason he wont get to 2k, is because thats all the Steelers are playing for...yet Baltimore has to win to get into the playoffs, so they wont keep running him into 9 man fronts if its not successful just to get a stat, they will try to win the game and that means adjusting to what the defense is giving you which will be favorable passing conditions....the only way he goes over 2k in my opinion is if he breaks a 40+ yard run, I dont think the steelers will let him get it 4 yards at a time(they surrendered 69 yards to him when they were trying to win the game, they should give up much less when the goal is just to stop him....9 in the box, maybe 10 and a heavy dose of the bus on offense to keep him on the sideline....the Steelers are too damn proad to get romped on and celebrated on like that)
I hear ya man but I'm sorry your reaching to think they'll just try to stop him and not win the game????? They aren't going to just worry about 2000 yards because they want to finish on a winning note to build on towards next year. Part of that will be that they have to stop lewis because he IS their offense but the only way Baltimore wins is by pounding Jamal all day everyday once they have the slightest lead and I think He has proven time and time again that it doesn't matter if you have 11 men plus the cheerleaders in the box his line is going to give him a hole and he is gonna hit it. You cna honestly put Cowher in the box to and his chin couldn't even stop him. (sorry I couldn't resist)
77 yards at half time. I must admit after watching the first two drives, I figured he'd have the record by halftime, but as the Steelers have settled down, they haven't given him anything. Should be an intersting second half.
One major thing changed since my prevoius posts....now, neither team needs to wint eh game, so Baltimore can counter Pittsburghs committment to stopping the run with a committment to run it no matter what...not saying that is the case, but it does change things somewhat, I still think they hold him under 154 and he doesnt get the record
Steelerfan, I thought he was going to do it by half as well but pittsburg had the pride it took to keep him from breaking a bigtime record against them. I must say that was one of the best meaningless football games I have ever watched. They flat out battled. Beef I don't think it would have matter if the steelers and ravens met in a beach volleyball game, after watching last night these two teams HATE each other and would want to kill each other whether it meant something or not.
Well most people don't realize that the we had beaten them 5 out of the last 6 times. They've never beaten us in Baltimore either. It was a great "meaningless" game. I guess Jamal will have to settle for 2nd best.
Ya I didn't realize that till last night when they were saying it during the game. I couldn't believe that with how solid baltimore has been, I would have figured they had one win at home before last night.
You have to give Jamal credit. The guy has a serious shoulder injury that kept him from practicing and they were scared could end his season, but he kept going out there whether he had contact in practice or not and carried his team to the playoffs. The guy was a true warrior this season.
The funny thing about Jamal is that I watched Billick pull him several times where he could have had another 50-100 yards. I bet if they would have used him in full capacity, he would have had 2300 yards.
