Listening to Bill Walton on the Tim Donaghy situation.

The other referees are worried about what Donaghy is going to say.

Stern's response, "Why would anyone believe anything that Tim Donaghy says?"

What, since when did Tim lie? He may have broken the integrity of the game, but since when is he a liar?

This is absolutely pathetic, no different than Selig turning his back against the steroids issue in baseball back during the juiced era. There is an obvious problem with these referees. They should be fired for breaking the rules (just like Amare was suspended because of the letter of the law, ignoring the specefic circumstances). He is turning his back on it because he doesn't want to deal with it. He is just going to ignore everything Tim Donaghy says.

Tim Donaghy will, most likely name other referees now that were involved in betting on games. David Stern has his little lawyer on the job, who is going to turn up nothing, and Stern is just going to claim that Donaghy was lying.

Absolutely ridiculous. David Stern is breaching the integrity of the game. Eddie Griffin might have gotten killed as part of David Stern's little gambling ring, and he is just going to sit there on his ass like this. He needs to be fired ASAP.

How about we wait to see what he actually does instead of freaking out over our own (your own) speculation?

I don't know if I think he should be fired, but that's a cringe-worthy quote from Stern. This is a guy who's come down like a ton of bricks on everyone who ever thought about gambling, and pushed hard for the tight restrictions that are now in place. If he blows it off to save the embarrassment of having to can these guys.... well, that'll be a major embarrassment too.

David Stern played a huge role in main-streaming the NBA, not only in America but around the world. The WNBA, the D-league, the players union were all his ideas, let it go about him being fired there's no way he could have forseen the ref's being involved in gambling.

    I don't hate Stern.

I was in support of him suspending Amare.

What I do have problem with is his lack of consistency. If your going to follow the letter of the law there, follow it here.

    Stop flip flopping.

This is very simple. Stern is saying he isn't going to use the words from Donaghy's mouth to punish other refs nor should he without corroborating evidence

Nowhere does it say Stern won't follow the NBA rules. This thread is less logical than the witch trial in The Holy Grail

To be fair, as good as Stern's been for the league, you have to give some credit to Magic and Bird and Dr. J and Jordan. As far as this situation goes, Stern is looking like a politician on the ropes and he's not coming across very well. When it really appears that several referees and even players and coaches may be involved in this mess, we had Stern saying things like "this is an isolated incident" and that kind of thing. The denial doesn't look good, and it doesn't lead people to believe in the guy as things progress.
