Who do you think the most over-hyped footballer around at the moment is?

I'll go with this young American Freddy Adu, each year I hear about him moving to some top team, yet nothing. He probably is good for American standards but until he plays in big games and proves himself it'll remain hype.

I would say Beckham but it appears people have caught onto that one. [IMG]

I'd say Freddy Adu hasn't moved to a big team yet because he's still in High School until he's 18. Look for him to move this coming summer.

I think the most over-hyped footballer is Rio Ferdinand, he was 30 mil and hes a pile of S**t. United waste the most money, veron-30 mil, carrick-18 mil, Rio-30 mil. All a pile of crap if you ask me.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing with Juan Sebastian Veron. At the time, he was one of the top 5 attacking players on the planet. The £28.1m was quite a bit, admittedly, but he was utter quality in the Italian league. Obviously, he didn;t adapt to the British league or weather (a lot of South American's don't). The real joke should be on Chelsea who, even after Veron was shown to be rubbish in the English style of play, paid £15m for him.

Carrick's projected fee is £18m. The initial fee was £12m and the rest is performance-related. One of them is £3m to be paid to Tottenham if Manchester United win the Champions League in the next 5 years or so. To be fair, if we were to win the European Cup, £3m to the yids is a small price to pay.

Rio is an inflated price tag, mainly because he's English, but he's a rock solid defender. Has concentration issues sometimes but is solid. If you say otherwise, you clearly don't know a thing about football.

The present Ferdinand isnt overhyped, but never worth the sum of 30 million. I mean his not even the best defender at club level, let alone national or wordwide.

Cannavaro sold for roughly 20 million and his supposedly the greatest. Saying that Ferdinand was hyped back in his Leeds/West Ham days.

Going back to your question, he was overhyped.
