I'd never want all that money to spend on expensive players for tens of millions of pounds - we'd end up like Chelsea spending like ?6 million on a keeper, ?25 million on a defender, ?20 million on a midfielder, and ?30 million on a striker. No, my beloved United will never buy success like Chavski have tried to. No, we should continue to win by playing local youth brought through our system. Please, don't EVER let us be so rich as to be able to outbid other clubs to get the better talent around...
This is a joke, yeah? The only reason you ever won anything recently was through four people... Fergie (Scottish I believe, bought from Aberdeen?), Robson (WBA?), Cantona (Vive la France?) and Keane (Irish Rep?). Local talent? You're avin a larf! They just garnished the real team... Now Stevie G. There's a real local hero you can be proud of...
We bought Cantona from Leeds mate, for £1.5 million. We bought Keane from Notts Forest. Never heard of Vive La France, are they a new club? Irish Rep is a nation, not a club. You don't buy players from the National sides. Having a laugh re local talent? What, you mean the team filled with it that won the double as "kids", and also went on to win the PROPER treble?
Ah... Mr United4life, I have a begrudging respect for the success that followed the likes of Scholes, Beckham, Giggs even Neville on a good day. But United's catalyst players were always drafted in! That's all I'm saying, no point arguing, not anything massively wrong with it, just a contradiction with the point... C'est la vie! (PS Vive la France won the Orange Ligue in 1903!)
i noe... local youth...wtf? No first class teams nowadays are pure local youth. We live in a time where managers and coaches want the very best, regardless of where they came from. Are u telling me that Saha is "local talent"?
Good one. But you can't deny that United's legacy has been built on youth brought through the system at Old Trafford. Beckham, Giggs, Neville, Scholes were the backbone and were all trained by United, for United. Why do you think Beckham has never made it at Madrid? Why do you think Giggs, Neville and Scholes have stayed at United and prospered? Agreed, we have made some big money signings but nothing compared to Chelsea, who have near-double figures of players in the region of £20m. No other club on the planet, to my knowledge, can boast that. I give Roman Abramovich five-to-seven more years and unless Chelsea win every trophy going in a single season, he'll be off. No one can lay out that much money and not see utter domination. And if Jose doesn't win the CL this year, Roman will kick him out too. That's the real money-spinner and it's the one thing Chelsea haven't even looked like getting close to yet.
It does make me laugh how short some Utd fans memories are. Yes Chelsea have spent a couple of quid on players. How many times have Utd transfers broke UK transfer records? Veron, Rio any of these rining any bells guys & what about Rooney, granted the actual transfer fee is different depending on where you look but for arguments sake he went to Utd for about the ?25m mark but thats gonna end up by the ?30m mark. Right that said, I think I need a lie down
Could someone explain to me, why the poster is speaking of his beloved Manchester United, while in his profile and in his signature are the words Chelsea spread all over. Manchester United not as Rich as Chelsea? You may want to check Forbes, because according to the business magazine, Malcolm Glazer is the richest owner of a sport franchise in the world. Manchester United is the richest club in the world, and has the highest operating cost. Although, with the potential take over of Liverpool by the Dubai company, Glazer's wealth may not be as big as that of the people behind Dubai International. I realize that Ferguson has spent less than Jose in the last twenty years than Jose has in the last two, but due to inflation and other economic factors, Ferguson' transfer bids have not been as potentially expensive as they could have been, besides, if you want to see a manager who has been shrewd with his transfer fees, it's Arsene Wenger.
