This isn't personal,....so congratulations to Zara Phillips, for winning the award last night.

Last night's result, however, was a poor affair altogether.

I just do not believe that Zara was the most influential, deserving, or popular sportsman/woman of 2006. Darren Clarke, or Joe Calzaghe both have a greater claim, in my opinion.Indeed there are I'm sure others who should be ranked above Zara.

Frankly it stinks of the BBC playing the 'establishment' card, but we should remember that this isn't the fault of Zara Phillips. The BBC have, by their actions , given her the dubious pleasure of being scrutinised both by the press, and public alike. She may find that this award is more hassle than it's worth.

The SPOTY used to be a 'must see' for all sports fans,...however after last night, I personally won't watch again.

I think that the BBC is taking it's viewing public for granted, and frankly the quality of sports coverage provided doesn't stand up to it's competitors.

    Poor,....very poor indeed.

Joe Calzaghe should have won it.

And Amir Khan should have won the Young Persons award, not Theo Walcott.

Remember it was the public that voted for her and not the BBC

I don't think Joe Calzaghe should've won it, nor should Zara Phillips. I think Ricky Hatton should've won it(Although this may be biased because as a boxer myself, he is my favourite. [IMG])

I don't rate Amir Kahn at all, he gets put up against people who have boxed about 2 people and haven't got any ability. Wait until he gets to box against someone half decent who can actually punch then we will see how good Amir Kahn actually is.
