Widely regarded as one of the best players in the world, Steven Gerrard is acknowledged as nothing less than a saviour of Liverpool. He has started 361 games for the Reds striking 69 goals. Two of his most famous at the FA Cup final thriller in May 2006. Steven Gerrard is a product of the Liverpool youth academy rising through the ranks as youngster bursting onto the scene in the late 1990s. Many remember the screamer against Manchester United. There were many others as well. Steven was given the Liverpool armband in 2003, picking the team up and come the end of the season they were back in the Champions League ready to embark on the journey to Istanbul. He was Liverpool?s miracle man in the 2004-2005 season, the spear head of the team. He saved them in December as they needed to beat Olympiakos by 2 goals and they were 1 goal down at half time. Mellor and Pongolle scored but at the ninetith minute it was still only 2-1, it wasn?t good enough. But then a Gerrard screamer in injury time put Liverpool into the knockout stages. After beating Juventus, Bayrn Levukusun and Chelsea in that controversal semi-final, Liverpool met AC Milan in Istanbul. In the 1st half Milan played one of the best halfs of football seen in many years, they led Liverpool by 3 goals to nil at half time. It was all important that Liverpool scored first and thanks to Steven they did. A looping header was enough to put a bit of doubt in Milan?s mind. Smicer and Alonso completed the comback. Liverpool won it on penaltys when Dudek saved from Shevchenko. In the 2005-2006 Season Liverpool had to start from the 1st round of the qualifiers for the champions league. Stevie scored his first hatrick when Liverpool played TNS. Liverpool didn?t have a great season but it was the FA Cup run that caught the eye culmulating in a return to Cardiff to face West Ham. At 3-2 down Liverpool fans were starting to get a Sense of D?j? vu but Stevie didn?t dissapoint scoring an amzing screamer in the dyin
I would never count him to one of the best players all over the world. He's a great player but overrated.
