to start a franchise with thats not a QB. who would u take?

id take: Marvin Harrison, LT, Portis or Orlando Pace. Probably Portis tho, hes the youngest best player in the league. id consider Champ, but hes a CB and thats the most important position (i play it) but its not a franchise position.

yea, i said that LT would be the best RB EVER if he stays healthy, but now portis is in the league and its hard to say. clinton is good and probably the better runner, but LT is a great runner to and can really catch the beall.

didnt LT get over 90 REC this yeaR?

LT would be a great one to start a franchise on but it seems like a great running back isnt that hard to find (although we cant seem to get one in NE) I'd have to go with Moss, a position where the talent drops off quick when compared to him. I see Harrison, Owens, and Holt as the next tier of WR's with Moss being in a league of his own.

My team would start with Shaun Alexander at RB and Torry Holt at WR. Not only are these guys great players but they're quality men with great work ethic.

moss on another level?????? I admit he is HIGH(pun intended) but here are top 5 recievers in league.

    1. Harrison
    2. Holt
    3. Ward
    4. Mason
    5. Mccardell

Attitude is everything and these players all have winning attitudes, they do what it takes to win. Moss does what it takes to have good numbers, he showed me everything i needed to see in game they lost to bears.

I'll have to bring this conversation back around to LaDainian Tomlinson. What makes his season so impressive is that he did it on a bad team with no consistant passing attack. I'll respectfully disagree with Glenso on the need to start with a great RB. For 17 seasons, the Dolphins could never get a superstar RB for Dan Marino and he left the game the greatest player to never get a ring. What's the difference between Marino and Elway? Terrell Davis. Elway never won a ring without him. Don't underestimate the luxury of having a great running back. I wonder how bad the Pats fans would like to have Curtis Martin back.

    Dale,

Yes we missed curtis dearly for a few years but my wounds have healed. The man I miss more right know is Robert Edwards. He would be in his prime right now and punishing the NFL. I also disagree on the importance of a special running back, but Glenso does have a point on how the talent drop-off from moss to say the 10th best receiver is alot more than Jamal Lewis to the 10th best running back.

I would start my franchise with Ray Lewis. No one better at creating a team chemistry on his own nevermind the obvious dominence he exibits on the field. He is like having another coach and master motivator on your sideline. Players on both sides of ther ball seem to react to him.

An inocent guy with class. LOL Easy Mr. Moderator I'm just teasing you.I think it's wise to go defense and Lewis is a great player. I just don't trust the guy ... I'm sure there was reasonable doubt, but I'd bet the Jury knew he was guilty of murder. He likely should be spending his life behind bars. Imagine how the two dead guys families feel when thet hear Lewis barking, knowing that all the killers went free.

He didn't kill anyone just helped his buddies that did get away. If I was stuck in that situation and one of my friends got in a fight and killed somone I wouldn't just leave him there I probably would have reacted the same even if I knew he was wrong. It's called loyalty. Lewis Killed noone.

Kinda reminds me of the Playmakers D.H. ... Maybe the faggot WR is based on Johnny Morton.

Scratch Derrick Mason off that list of WRs. I like McCardell, but not that much. Harrison is the top of lot. He is the most consistant player the Colts have ever drafted and that DOES include Peyton Manning. Talk about your value picks, this guy was the 19th overall pick in '96. I've been preaching Harrison as the Colts MVP since his second year and now he is starting to get the recognition he deserves.

    My list goes like this:

    1. - Marvin Harrison
    2. - Terrel Owens
    3. - Randy Moss
    4. - Eric Moulds
    5. - Hines Ward

This doesn't mean that I would start a franchise around any of these guys, but this is the list of people I would like to have on a team. If I had all of these guys on my team, I would start them all with an empty back-field.

NUMBER ONE OVER-ALL PICK (since it can't be a QB)

    Jonathan Ogden, Offensive Tackle

Hands down, one of the best tackles the league has ever seen.

I like Ogden gogo. Nice choice. He is pretty nasty.

IMO though TO is not over Moss. I think attitude aside Harrison is 1A and Moss is 1B. If Holt has another big touchdown year like this one he becomes 1C. TO is awesome but he is not better than moss and there is not one better receiver in the league on the deep ball. I mean moss makes these catches over double coverage like it is nothing. It just looks too easy for him.

I said orlando Pace in my original post, seeing if any1 would pick a lineman, after all they do win games [IMG]

i think the best WRs are
    It would be like this:

Marvin Harrison will probably be the second best WR EVER when he retires.
Randy is already better than Rice at any point in Jerry's career, band randy could be better than he is. hard to think that, but first youd have to get him to play at least 90% and NEVER take plays off...hes such a jerk
and then TO,Moulds,Ward,Holt are all 1C+

Could I replace one really bigtime (and big salary) player with an entire offensive line? After all, a whole offensive line could buy a Randy Moss or TO.

One player to build a franchise around would have to be Clinton Portis. He's young so he has a lot of time left, and if you build around a strong running game, the passing game opens up.

If I could have TWO players, I would easily take Portis, then Moss. I don't care who you have as QB, passing to Moss makes everyone look good. Just ask Jeff George, Randal Cunningham, Brad Johnson, etc... As far as Moss's attitude, it is way overhyped. As someone who follows the Vikings closely, Moss is a stable player who adds a lot to the team.

I just noticed this morning in my latest issue of SI that Dr. Z picked Harrison and Holt as the two best WR's in the NFL. He did say Moss was a close 3rd.

I'm always leary of Denver RB's, I think Shawn Bryson would gain 1600 yards in Shanahan's system.

Portis is an amazing player, but there has to be at least some question about this guys durability long term. He's not as big as some of the other mentioned backs (Jamal Lewis or LT2) and I'm not sure he'll have a long, successful career. I'd prefer either of those other backs over Portis to build a franchise around.

As for Ray Lewis or Jon Ogden, both are viable prospects, but I would build my franchise around somone younger I think. I wouldn't choose a receiver to build a franchise around either. There's plenty of talent to draft and sign at that position.
