It has long been a saying around many clubs that no man is bigger than the club, not shankly, not fergusen and certainly not you Mourinho! Now i am not a Mourinho hater, but i do see that the owner and coach have a clash of styles that really didn?t work from the outset. As an outsider looking in at the chelsea situation it seems comical at the goings on, he said this and she said that, it all sounds like a typical domestic. However, there is much more to the implications going forward and i beleive the cracks started not long after Mourinho arrived. Roman knew what he wanted from buying chelsea, for him chelsea is his playstation and entertainment is what he wanted. The aim was entertainment and trophies, however, this is where it proved difficult, Mourinho at the time was hot property, he had a style that worked and he was winning trophies and winning is what gets you noticed and primed for the top jobs. Yet chelsea have come a cropper and the team has been branded workmanlike yet not flamboyant enough for Romans liking, it was first an issue when the Barcelona bandwagon rolled into town and dispatched chelsea out of the champions league with the flair of Ronaldinho and Co. As the seasons have gone on the strength in depth has kept the points rolling in yet the expectation and the managing of billy big time players is starting to take its toll and it is proving Mourinho?s real test, he hasn?t managed players of the Shevchenko and Ballack calibre and he certainly hasn?t had to find a formation to accomodate the players, even at porto where the players were bought from above, he still made the positions he wanted clear and even recommended players. This for me is where Jose is struggling, he knows his way of playing and it doesn?t fit a Ballack or Shevchenko, Jose has mastered the art of a winning system which fits certain types of players and he wants players to fit his system. The situation may look like it is abramovich versus mourinho and at the end of it all the owner will clearly win, yet the complaints that mourniho didn?t want Ballack or sheva doesn?t wash. If you gave any other premiership manager the chance to sign them they would have accomodated them. Ballack plays in the same position as Lampard, like for England with Gerrard, it is about choosing between them. Shevchenko gets pushed out wide right to accomodate the system leaving Drogba as the central figure. The Mourinho system doesn?t favour the current crop of players, essien for example is for me the best midfielder Chelsea have yet he is pushed from pillar to post instead of using him to full potential. That team has flair deep down and has the ability to play flamboyant football yet, the players look out of sorts with a system only few at chelsea play well. At the moment many chelsea fans believe mourinho is the man responsible for getting chelsea where they are, but he only accounts for a small percentage as without Roman they would probably fighting it out with Leeds. Abramovich wants to be entertained and he like me feels that Mourinho isn?t the man for doing so, which is why can see a change for the better at the helm and that is a worrying thought for the rest of the premiership. No one man is bigger than the club, but certain individuals bring great influences, yet it isn?t always an obvious influence that riegns supreme!
Mourinho is more important... he is a great manager even tho he has made mistakes this season but he still is better than Abramovich
Mourinio is in a really difficult position, I'm sure its very annoying not to be able to expand the team and bring in more new players, very frustrating for him, I'm sure he feels there is no point in him beaing ther, In my opinion he'll be gone by the summer
