The 2004-05 season of the European UEFA Champions League football club tournament (considered by many to be the greatest final of all time) was won by Liverpool in a dramatic final against A.C. Milan in the Atat?rk Olympic Stadium. 3-0 down at half-time, Liverpool scored three goals in seven second half minutes to force extra time. Goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek performed a memorable double save, a header and a point-blank shot from Andriy Shevchenko in the final minutes, and went on to save two penalties as his team won the cup on penalties. Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, was named UEFA's Footballer of the Year for his key role in the final and throughout the Champions League season.

As it was their fifth victory in the competition, Liverpool kept the cup and received the UEFA badge of honour. A new trophy was made for the 2005-06 season

    Team list:
Jerzy Dudek; Steve Finnan (46' Dietmar Hamann), Sami Hyypi?, Jamie Carragher, Djimi Traor?; Harry Kewell (23' Vladim?r ?micer), Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard©, John Arne Riise, Luis Garc?a, Milan Baro? (85' Djibril Ciss?)

Unused subs: Scott Carson, Josemi, Igor Biscan, Antonio Nunez

Get over it mate, as a united fan i consider the 99 final the greatest of all time, ask a Milan fan theirs, no one will say 0405 was theirs. it depends on who you support.

[IMG] No doubt that's true, but I'm afraid that in the eyes of many neutrals, the 2005 final wins hands-down. Not many neutrals would choose the 1999 final.

As a German newspaper said at the time:

"It was gigantic. It was sensational. It was out of this world. Thank you, Milan. Thank you, Liverpool. For the best Champions League final in history"

These sentiments were added to by the likes of Cruyff and Maradona, and the UEFA website says this:

"The Reds' European pedigree shone brightly again in 2005 when they battled back from 3-0 down to defeat AC Milan on penalties in what was perhaps the competition’s most exciting and memorable final"

    Get over it, mate...

As for those people whining about it being in the past...so is last weekend. Are we only supposed to celebrate footballing achievements while they're in progress? (And before we even know the outcome?. As soon as it's over, it's in the past).

I hate Liverpool, and Liverpool fans like this who seems to think that because they won the Champions League 2 years ago automatically makes them the best team around. Didn't you go out to Benfica the year after? How embarrassing ...

Yes, i know chelsea haven't won anything in Europe, and i don't particularly care. We've won the league, all i can ask for really.
