Well we've probably covered this in bits and pieces, but I'm spured on by a video of some idiot ESPN commentator who said that footy has no chance in the US. Now this guy has both feet in the grave and is clawing for every last breath, so I didn't put much stock in his opinion, which was obviously a defensive reaction. Take into consideration that all of you are footy fans, and thus automatically biased. As for my opinion. I think that there is plenty of room for football. Mostly because I think the sports pie is getting bigger. People said that there was no room for other sports in America 15 years ago, yet all the major sports have grown, and you have fringe sports that have become very popular, like snow boarding, golf etc. I think the sports entertainment market growth alone will provide the opportunity. I mean seriously, my co-workers are running out of mindless jabber on all the other sports around the second month of every season. By that point I could see them turn their attention to a new sport, simply because their numb from the same old shit...let alone the fact that it's the best sport.
Bloody Yanks. They says its boring but look at there games they stop every two minutes so they can go and get some "potato chips" and be fat bastards but now the MLS seems to be picking up with signing players who are good like Beckham to LA Galaxy but last time Pele went to an American side... The New York Cosmo's infact and so did alot of other stars and it flopped. The guy who invented the Cosmo's and Made it pretty big for that period of time in America died and his son wanted to make his dreams come true and started opening Football "Soccer" Academy's.
Isnt football played the most by children in America. Thatss gonna happen here soon because parents are scared their children are gonna get hurt.
I've heard that football is one of the most popular sports for kids in the USA, but it's not going to be like that here Rodney. Only time will tell if football will make it in the US, it definitely has a chance because there's a lot of money in the game over there now but it just depends on the fans and if there are enough of them. I've read that they've been building new rectangular stadiums but they're only around 20,000, so it's like they're not expecting it to grow, but I guess right now 20,000 is all it needs.
a lot of people play it over there from what ive seen.. i think it can make it in US.. we'll have to see in years to come..
It will take a generation for the transition. Football and baseball are quite boring but people use to watch that on TV with beers. This young generation will go soccer and will watch they kids into soccer also. When America will 'soccer' wake up, it will be seen with another eye...
I hope it makes it here. I think it has even picked up alot more followers since the world cup. It's got a way but I think it has a pretty decent shot to make it in the U.S. Oh and Lennon if you watched MLS you would realize it doesn't stop every two minutes, it stops at half time like regular footy/soccer games.
