The cards were flying as arch rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate met yesterday in Mendoza, Argentina for the annual Copa Revancha (Cup of Revenge).

Although the pitch unfortunately looked as though bleach had been spilled upon it, with large yellow patches, the players seemed to take no notice as their energy level was high from the moment the whistle blew. The first yellow card was given to Boca in the 7th minute, for a questionable tackle on the River captain, Belluschi. River and Boca then took turns dominating the play, including a Boca shot in the 27th minute that hit the crossbar. After several more minutes of intense, physical play, another yellow was given to a Boca player in the 31st minute- as soon as he stood up after rolling around on the ground for a few minutes.

But at last in the 39th minute, Mart?n Palermo headed in a free kick from Morel to score the first goal of the match. A few minutes later, a River player was booked for tripping up a Boca player. The referee was immediately surrounded by 7-10 players shoving each other and arguing over the call. A free kick was awarded, but more theatrics ensued. The Boca player taking the kick motioned for the blocking River players to move over a few feet- but the River player walked over to him and made a big show of smacking his hand. At least the referee had the good sense to book them both, making a total of 5 yellow cards in the first half.

There was more card madness at the beginning of the second half when a River player was issued his 2nd yellow at the 51st minute. Despite their numerical disadvantage, River continued to attack and managed to equalize in the 59th minute. The packed stadium went wild; grandparents, babies, young men madly swinging their shirts around, everyone was on their feet. River still managed to hang on, even as another player was ejected in the 70th minute.

After a tense round of penalties, River prevailed 5-6.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Juniors tied 1-1 with River in Mendoza by the Revancha Glass and lost 6-5 in the definition by penitentiaries.

After the party, Miguel Angel Russo indicated that ?before the goal of River, we handled the encounter. Later, they took advantage of our errors and could tie?.

In addition, the trainer of Mouth said that ?the tie was not virtue of the rival, but that arrived by error our. Mouth wanted to turn the first third goal before the second. We must be concentrated until the 90 minutes, that are when the party is finished?.

Mauricio Caranta was another one of the protagonists who left their sensations before the press: ?Mouth must have gone with more goals to the second time, but never we knew to close the party. Of all ways, I go away with a positive balance of the preseason, since a good work became?.</div>
