Gary Neville could be joining LA Galaxy (David Beckhams new club) on a 3 month loan from June until August this summer. The American Soccer League starts in early July, so Neville will play competitively during July & August, as well as twice weekly friendly/warm up/promotional games during June.

A mate's told me TalkSPORT quote 'an unnamed LA Galaxy source' for this story & suggest that a 'very substantial' loan-fee has been agreed with United and a 'considerable' salary with the player.

It is ONLY a loan, and he will be back to start the 2007/8 Premiership season on August 19th.

I'm guessing that this will mean Gary will have to go straight into our season having already played for 2 and a half months of football in the US. As much as I love GN, how can this be acceptable? How can a player be allowed to virtually "free load" during our closed season, and then come back and really give 100% for his main employers? I hope that this deal doesn't come off (is it Glazer led???) because we need our captain to be a full strength ALL of next season so we can RETAIN our title.

Yeah it may help Uniteds profile in the states a little, but OUR PLAYERS shouldn't be playing for another club in the summer/closed season.

    Any thoughts?

This would be ridiculous! How on earth could one of United's players (or any teams players) be allowed to spend what is meant to be their closed season playing for another club???

That's not what the loan system was designed for - it is to allow youth/lesser players gain experience by moving to smaller clubs.

I'm not sure SAF could allow Neville to knacker himself out in what is meant to be a rest period.
