according to an interview with SAF on the united website, when Larsson goes back to sweden, Smith will be his replacement. I'm guessing by this SAF means that Larsson will go, and when he does Rooney-Saha will be the top strike partnership again, with Ole and Smith fighting it out for a place on the bench. So even if there is the opportunity to keep Larsson, SAF doesn't want to as he wants to bring Smith back into the team - which is fair enough, we are paying his wages and he should be fully fit by then. I for one will be sorry to see Larsson go, but we have got too many strikers at the moment so someone has to go, Smith wants to fight for his place and larsson does technically belong to Helsinborgs so that seems the most amicable solution for all concerned.
