There are several words I detest in football... racism, diving, agents, prices etc. But the one I'm going to talk about today is "fickle". Too many fans buy into the media hype, have the memory of a goldfish and can quite definitely be deemed fickle. These are the fans who helped to drive out Alan Pardew from his tenure as West Ham manager. He won them promotion, took them to within seconds of FA Cup glory and "raised the expectations" (anyone else bored of hearing that?) of the club buy achieving a respectable mid-table finish last season. His reward? The sack after a poor start to the season. I've recently found about five articles on the Arsenal board stating that it's time to get rid of Henry. Reason? Because he looks a little rusty and he's only got the four goals from the last five games. This is a man who pledged his future to the club and along with Arsene Wenger has helped to make Arsenal one of the best teams in Europe (despite very modest league performances these last two years). When he is at his best there can not be many (if any) better players in the world than Henry. The media places too much pressure on managers and players these days and sadly fans buy into it. The newspapers will come off as looking innocent when they contritely say a few months later how premature decisions by the board led to club's demise. Expectations of clubs are too high - I wonder if Bolton dropped into the second half of the table would cries of "sack Allardyce" come ringing out. If Chelsea only get 3rd place next season will Abramovich say "That's it!" to Mourinho despite the two consecutive league titles? Remember where your clubs were before these managers/players came along. They've been loyal to your club, give a bit of loyalty back.
I think if Chelsea finish 3rd next season Mourinho will definately get the Spanish archer (El Bow for the unversed)! Being a Portsmouth fan, I shall be screaming bloody blue murder if next season we don't set a new points record whilst winning the premiership, and of course take the UEFA Cup by storm (Fingers crossed we get there!! Maybe inter coco the clown cup). This season we have even had fellow Pompey fans bemoaning the blip in form that we experienced in new year, and haven't really emerged from - relax guys, we're having an incredible season - so yes I know what you mean. I think the most fickle fans in the football world are the toon Army, cheering on their team but booing them off come half time!
