Jan. 6, 2004 --LB Jamal Brooks signed a one-year deal for the 2004 season worth $380,000. --The Cowboys also signed their five practice squad players to contracts for next season, including wide receiver Cedric James, running back Reshard Lee, punter Mat McBriar, defensive tackle Shaun Smith and tackle Dave Volk. --QB Quincy Carter believes he has done enough to retain his starting job in 2004 (yeah, right...whatever), but said the decision is out of his hands. All he can do is continue to work hard and put in the work so he can take advantage of whatever decision is made. --RB Troy Hambrick knows that his days as the Cowboys' starting running back are probably over. However, he said he will do whatever he can and accept whatever role he can to keep a job in the league, a lesson learned from his disgruntled brother Darren, who is now out of the league. --FB Richie Anderson fumbled only one time all season and didn't lose a fumble in 139 touches in 2003. So it was surprising that Anderson fumbled the ball in the first quarter against the Panthers, killing any chance the Cowboys had of seizing early momentum.
