I've just read comments made by Steven Gerrard and Peter Crouch that they believe Jamie Carragher is one of the best, if not the best defender in the world.

I'll admit that I don't see many of his games for Liverpool but I have got to say that I didn't know whether to laugh or call the FA so that they can get a Doctor to take urine samples from the Liverpool players, in case they've been taking some dodgy mind altering substances?

I'd like to get some comments from Liverpool fans and anyone else who was maybe surprised (or maybe not surprised, as the case may be?) if they've read the same story about Carragher.

Personally, I would maybe just sneak him in the top 5 defenders in the Premiership, but like I say I don't watch many of his games.

I can't decide about who's the fifth on the list, the first 4 pick themselves for me.

    1. John Terry - for his influence alone!
    2. Kolo Toure - he is amazing, I wish we had another 10 of him!
    3. Rio Ferdinand - he is a class act, no matter what anyone might say.
    4. William Gallas - i'm going by his Chelsea form as he's not really had the games of late to form a partnership with Toure.
    5. Jamie Carragher, Nemanja Vidic, Ricardo Carvalho or Jonathan Woodgate? I can't decide who's best out of these 4.

Even as a Utd fan, I think Carragher is a great player and the real leader of Liverpool, but to say he is the best defender in the world is way off! This Barca victory is really going to some Liverpool heads. [IMG]

Carragher is a class defender, he certainly deserves a place in the England set up, but it's a slight exaggeration to call him world class. Paolo Maldini in his prime was world class. [IMG]

jamie carrahger for england striker lol, hes played every where else why not up strike.

na he is one of the top premiership defenders but isnt as good as rio and terry so he misses out. i think he should take up the right back position for england for a few games again. hes always red tho, tis strange lol

world class? well i dont see many top european clubs bidding for him, or many premiership for that matter but he is a consistant defender that is where he is best

I dont see many people bidding for Ronaldinho? Strange that. Anyhow, rightback is not his strongest position, if you play him there he will not be up to his standard and will make him look shit.

how in the blue hell can you compare ronalhino and carragher really.

anyway he plays well at right back, i know his strongest position is cb but like i said rio and john terry are better so he wouldnt get in.

this could be because Barca wont accept anything, also cubs have bidded for ronaldinho.

Carragher is the most determined player on the pitch, but he is no where near the best in the world.

I dont see Carragher as the best in the world not even defender maybe best right back in the world but yeah the guy is solid at the back for Liverpool.

Carra and John Terry are by far the best 2 defenders in the country but are very similar. Rio is in the team because like you said he is a different type of defender which actually complements a REAL defender. With Terry being captain and a southerner so all the media bollocks that comes with it Carra wont get in. Personally I think I would have Carra in my team before the floppy lipped coke sniffer but like I said him and JT are too similar. Its like 2 Ian rush's or 2 Kenny Dalglish's wouldn't be as good as a Rush and Dalglish.

I would rate him as the 2nd best in the world behind to john terry as i feel that he has more heart than anybody in football bar terry.

    1. John Terry
    2. Jamie Carragher
    3. Fabio Cannavaro
    4. Carlos Puyol
    5. Rio Ferdinand
