The Newcastle squad this year must be one of the best we've had for a few years if you look at players such as Martins, Parker, Given, Duff and Dyer who are all class players who have played at high standards for years. however something doesn't seem to click. Obviously we have been injury struck but i'm afraid we can't use that excuse forever. example, with a decent side we grind out a 0-0 draw with boro in one of the most piss-poor matches I can remember seeing newcastle ever play in. When you look at players like martins and dyer who can cause any defence problems it seems wrong that we can't even score at St James' against a team any geordie would expect to beat.

Here's a quick overview of my opinion of our strongest XI:

Given - I dare anyone to question his ability. simple as.
Solano - Since he's played at RB he looks stronger than Carr, far more composed and more attacking threat.
Taylor - Will be playing for england in the next world cup but needs to cut out the mistakes that cost us matches.
Bramble - Say what you will but vastly improved over the last few months especially in europe.
Ramage - Not conviced by babayaro at all, better at RB or CB but can cope on the left.
Milner - another future england player. Keeping Milner at newcastle was one of the best things roeder has done this season.
Parker - Quality captain. creates and controls the midfield play.
Butt - Tough one, Butt has been a reformed player this season and a saviour to our defence. Not as creative as emre but we need the protection at the back.
Duff - Pure quality on his day. disappears when its not.
Dyer - No doubt in how good kieron is. turned our season around??
Martins - Will be the next geordie idol. Immense finisher sometimes needs to just play the simple ball.

Lets have your opinions lads [IMG]

good players, not good enough though. you lack the real money to get the best players like man u and chelsea. and also you dont have great youth players coming through, look at man us youth team from the 90s, they are still playing at high levels, and noone can doubt arsenals youth team, they managed to get them to the carling cup final.

liverpool are turning out like newcastle are atm, but luckily theyve got this rich american giving them the money soon. but otherwise, they dont have a great youth team and until this takeover didnt have enough money for the best players

Agreed Shearer was one of the best strikers ever.

Plus i think you have pretty average players except for Given and Martins.

I have four reason's I have thought of they dont have as much finances as Chelsea, United etc etc .. The team dont gel well all the timeand have some injuries .. Sherear the best player I've seen in a Newcastle jersey has retired .. Slip up to smaller teams that they should beat sometimes.
