Frank Lampard is the most self obsessed, egocentric and over hyped player in European football

The man cannot accept any criticisms for his abject displays in an England and Chelsea shirt yet take the plaudits when he scores yet another tap in or deflected grass cutter.

His goals mask his average performances and his lack of creativity show that as a midfielder his game is severely limited and one dimensional.

He has come to represent the most vulgar side of modern football when players of limited ability are cast as gods and given such huge financial rewards for such mundane performances.

However it is his arrogance regarding criticisms of his displays and of his truly wretched book that mark him out for particular castigation as such an egomaniac.

England fans should call for his exclusion from the side so that England can build a side around their best players and employ a system that suits the side

I would like to see McClaren drop Lampard for one match and play Gerrard with Hargreaves or Carrick... then he should drop Gerrard for a match and play Lampard with either Hardgreaves or Carrick. Lampard and Gerrard are the weak links of the midfield and it's unfair that Lampard takes all the criticsm, I think people don't want to admit that Gerrard does play poor. One of these players should be dropped, but only to the bench, and it's time McClaren finds out who!

The sooner they let Ballack have the role he was bought to play and bench frank then i will worry but until then keep going frank because you are a chelsea enigma!

With essien who is the best they have there shipped around the positions and ballack and sheva in unfamiliar positions the rest of the premiership and europe is safe, but i am worried the new manager will sort this out straight away.

    Unless it's Sven....

A flawed player and a flawed individual. I agree that the thread could relate to a few top players but it is Lampard's reaction to his critics that gets me

During the world cup he said that ex players should not criticize current players! Unbelievable thing for a professional to say. I am sure he would not have come out if praised and said that ex players should never praise current players

a complete idiot and severely limited player who has held the England team back for 3 years. He is also the man responsible for Scholes retirement from International football.

He got England to the world cup but that was two nearly 2 years ago now. He should have been dropped from the England squad after the World Cup, he was our worst performer there, much more than the scapegoat i.e. Beckham. I wonder just how long Mclaren or his replacement will stick with him. In a way I hope we lose to Israel. Then he will be dropped and we can as a national team start moving forward!

There is no spirit at Chelsea. You cannot buy that.

How can he "pat his badge" every time he scores a goal, but threaten to leave, 2 years short of his contract, unless he gets more money. He's not playing for the badge at all, he is playing for his own ego.

Chelsea have become a passionless football club, who we cannot wait to see the demise of. They've had a couple of quick years where they've burst onto the scene and won a couple of titles, but when it comes down to bottle and team spirit, it cannot be purchased, and Chelsea will be found wanting.

You could almost argue what is the point of their existence?? They do nothing for the game, and any tradition the club had pre-Roman has gone out the window. SO the Chelsea that everyone supported before 2004 doesn't exist.

Chelsea fans have theoretically been left without a team to support. They could always do a Wimbledon and set up a new Chelsea, whom all the real fans will follow.

So I would be right in thinking you've only started watching footy last summer? Lampard and Rooney tore teams apart at 2004. Lampard has been our most consistent goal scorer (bar Owen) since he got in the team. He was our highest goal scorer in WC 06 qualifiers.

He's Chelseas highest goalscoring midfielder ever, surpassing Wise in literally half the time they've played.

He has been the creator for Chelsea for the past 3 years, of which they have made United, Arsenal and Liverpool look like pub teams.

Lampard may be over rated, but so is every single other England player. Except for Neville. Why does that make him different? Because he doesn't have a special technique or special characteristic that defines him from other players (eg Rooney Scholes Gerrard Lennon).

Arrogant? Are you taking the mick? erm Henry and Ronaldo stand there shaking their heads as if to say 'yeah, I know' when they score good goals. Many foreign players do it, they stand there as if they're gods gift. From every single game Lampard has scored in I have NEVER seen him act like this, he runs straight to his crowd and cheers with them. Unless you don't know the definition of arrogant, then you either jump on the band wagon and can't actually form your own opinion (like most of the media brain washed goons that think they know footy), or you simply don't know football.

Aggressive? When? When Fabregas grabbed him round the neck? Or are Adebayor, Eboue, Drogba all actually good people and Lampard instigated it all because he's evil and he didn't score at the WC [IMG]

If you want to point at an English player for aggression, look at Rooney, Barton, Gerrard, Neville, carragher, Hargreaves, Terry etc.

'Yeah but Lampard is fat!" [IMG]

Being a United fan I hate to say these things, but the fact is I'm not a sheep. I form my own opinions and will only admit when I'm wrong when proved. So prove it...

I personally believe that Chelsea would be better off without him. The team play a very central system with all the CMFs they have, yet when you see Robben or Cole come on they look immense and would scare the sh1t out of any team. Ballack is more than capable of replacing Lampard, but he won't be adored as much and won't make an individual name for himself at Chelsea football club as Lampard has.

The people who don't respect Lampard are the guys who don't know that much about football. Where Gerrard and Rooney are allowed to slip up, he isn't. I believe this is because he doesn't have something unique, he doesn't have that 'mojo' if you like, that other players have. Why isn't anyone moaning about Rooney? When did he last score for England? When did he last score in Europe? Lampard has been far superior than nearly all the midfielders in our league in ALL competitions, yet because he has a bad tournament (as did everyone else) and he plays for Chelsea he's suddenly fat and crap.

Get your OWN opinions! Stop spouting the crap you read and what other people say on these forums! I'm a United fan through and through, but I'm not stupid like most of the idiots who say he's crap. [IMG]

One last thing, in 2004 when Scholes was playing, Rooney and Lampard were smashing them in from all angles. He was kicked out and Gerrard came in. Now Rooney and Lampard play crap. Why don't people see it as Gerrards problem? Oh because Lampard is fat, gotcha ok.

Excellent post united4life! Maybe if England keep Gerrard in a wing postion and let Lampard roam in the centre with Carrick/Hargreaves along side him but playing deep while Lamps attacks.
