Everyone has a wish list of the strikers that they would like Benitez to bring in next year. Seriously though, if you look at the names people are mentioning would they cut the ice in the Premiership. Villa. Great striker, but could he cope with the pace of the game and the physical style of play from defenders in the premiership. Eto'o. Definitely a class striker, but is his temperament too suspect for Liverpool and the Premiership. Berbatov. Proved that he can cope with Premiership at Spurs this year. Not exactly pacey, but a good option. Henry. A cheeky bid would be good, but would Wenger sell him to a Premiership rival, and he has stated his desire to stay at Arsenal. One more name I would like to throw into the hat: Klose. He is a powerful, physical player, pacey and a predator. Also would be capable of coping with the Premiership. But would he want to leave and come to the premiership. I think my choice would be Klose or Eto'o, with Berbatov a close runner up. Villa would be good but I am not convinced he would be able to cope. Just an opinion.
I think the thread is spot on. Big names have come and gone in the past without setting the Prem on fire. Klose would be well worth a bid and Berbatov when played alongside someone with pace can be devastating, and is also proven in the English league. I still think Rafa needs another centre back and this is his other big priority IMO. Mertesacker from Werder Bremen would be my choce and a couple of decent wingers wouldnt go amiss either!
I'm not totally convinced by the 'Liverpool need a 20 goal a season striker' argument - largely because of Rafa's rotation system that keeps his existing strikers from reaching such a tally. I believe Kuyt could well bang in the goals next season, and whilst signing someone like Villa may well boost the team I think Liverpool are getting closer to making a genuine title bid.
