Thierry Henry failed miserably in Italy against the catenaccio style defending. The thing ive noticed about Henry is that his main attribute is pace. Against tight defences and catenaccio style defending pace has very limited capabilities to unlock the catenaccio defence. The thing I like about Rooney is that he is a very very clever smart and cunning player that can succeed against Catenaccio style defending. I get annoyed when pundits keep praising Henry when he runs past the whole of little Fulhams team and scores. I mean even Linford Christie can probably do that if he could dribble with the ball. Aagainst the very best defences Henry always goes missing because he cant use his pace and he isnt as bright as Rooney in trying to unlock the tight defences.
I agree. Henr y is a great player, better than Rooney, but Henry never goes to Old Trafford and plays well or against big teams at all. But i remember when they played italy in the qualifier just after the world cup and he torn apart Cannavaro so some times he plays well. Henry>Rooney IMO(but not at Old Trafford, He is awful)
Your right naruto... I totally agree in the bigger games he cant use his pace because in Europe most teams play with pace and know how to defend against it.. Rooney is smart although Henry is better...
And who was it scored a hatrick away to Roma a while ago? If you think all that Henry has is pace you are severly mis-informed.The guy is brilliant. No matter who he plays against he terrifies the opposition. He would walk into any team in the world
Henry is the better player without a doubt. But, i think the reason Rooney plays better in the bigger games is because he would probably be able to slot into attacking midfield where with Henry, he wouldn't be able to. And as attacking midfielder's need to be able to pass, shoot and hold the ball up, i think Rooney is able to do just that bit more. Probably hasn't made much sense but i am rather drunk ...
