I know, I know this has been done to DEATH and all, but I am curious as to your thoughts. The majority of (sensible) Arsenal fans reckon we need a new keeper. Now just ANY keeper but a world class keeper. Afterall if Chelsea have Cech why cant we have the best goalkeeper going? Now its safe to say Buffon is one of THE best keepers in the world. Hes also the most expensive keeper in the world. What chance would we have at signing him? Well heres the thing. The rumours about Gilberto might me a bit more than rumour. 1) I am pretty sure Juventus still owe us a heck of a big chunk of money for the Viera transfer fee. 2) Juventus would have to shell out somewhere in the region of ?5-7 million for Gilberto. 3) Juventus have missed out on a lot of money with not being in Seria A and Europe. Now Buffon has said in interviews in the past that Arsenal is a team he admires, that if he did move to the EPL he would want to play in London for a big Club. Chelsea have Cech and well he wont go to Spurs (I said a BIG club )so that leaves.... US! I wonder if perhaps we might be willing to say to Juve. "Tell ya what, we will give you Gilberto, and scrap the money you owe us for Viera if you give us Buffon" It would save Juventus around ?15 million and gain them a great defensive mid player. (They have sold Emerson and Viera who had done this for them in the past). Would you sell Gilberto to get Buffon?
If Deschamps even THOUGHT about that deal he should be shot! You do not sell or trade the worlds best goalkeeper for an ageing central midfielder. Arsene can dream about it because it's never going to happen, as soon as Juve get back into Serie A.. expect alot of their old players to return aswell as some new ones.
Buffon wont go to Arsenal for Gilberto. Buffon is a very committed player and i dont think that Deschamps will accept that deal.
You should try and go for Akinfeev, he was amazing against you in the group stages, and wont cost as much
