Ok, here is a thread for everybody, just a good laugh and banter between all club?s fans. Name your club?s: a. Cult Hero since 1990, and why. b. Best buy since 1990, and why. (not your best player, your best buy. For example Thiery Henry would be Arsenal?s best player, but is probably not (just) their best buy at around ?12m) c. Worst buy since 1990, and why. d. Club?s proudest moment since 1990, and why. e. Club?s most embarrassing moment since 1990, and why. Here?s mine. Have fun, lets try and get one from every club. Sunderland a. Niall Quinn. Because the lanky, gangly, loveable git looked more like Bambi than a footballer, but was blessed with fantastic technique and was the perfect target man. An awesome bloke who never took himself seriously is now our chairman. Niall Quinn IS Sunderland. b. Kevin Phillips cost ?350,000 which rose to ?600,000. Scoring 115 goals including 30 in one season in the premier league which saw him win the European Golden boot. c. Milton Nunez, measuring in at approximately 5?1?, the ?3m striker of 2002 fame played one second half as a sub at home before Peter Reid found out that he had signed the wrong Milton Nunez and sold him for next to nothing. A total doughnut (applicable to Reid and Nunez). d. Losing the 97-98 playoff final. We lost 8-7 on penalties to Charlton, but both teams were awesome in what was one of the best ever games at Wembley and later to be voted as one of the top 10 games (7th I think) of all time by FourFourTwo readers. Defo the proudest moment for me. Yes that was even better than winning the Championship with 105 record points and just pips Sunderland?s resurrection under Keane this season. e. Hiring Howard Wilkinson as manager in 2002 (the beginning of the end). Officially Sunderland?s worst ever manager. I would like to say he was a nice bloke, but he had the personality of an inanimate object, neither good nor bad as a character he added absolutely nothing, and destroyed my pride as a fan.
man united, a, cult hero has to go to solskjaer, saay to aany united fan "and solksjaer has won it" and watch there eyes mist over and grin come on there face. not just that but the loyalty and his understated brilliance leave him as a true united legend. b, eric cantona, he came he saw he conquerd. he was the catalyst for everything that united have achieved since the premiership began. and all this for 1.2 million plus bonus he ripped the life out of leeds for another decade. c, david bellion, this may suprise people considering the likes of veron have been financialy bad buys but bellion was worse. united chased him for over 2 years, and ended up in a court battle over him final transfere fee was 3.5 million. he wasnt even championship class neveer mind premiership. he couldnt get into sunderlands team when they was worse in the league never mind the best! d, proudest moment was turin 99 2 goals down plus an away goal in the first half to the italian giants to win to go through to the champions league final. they never give in, they would not be beaten. e,loosing to york city 3-0 in the league cup, or one of the invisible grey shirt performances.
a. Cult Hero I guess its gotta be Neil Lennon.. Although Celtic fans are starting to get annoyed with his immaturity on the pitch... by throwing bottles at fans.. not accepting being subbed he has been there so long and is the captain and lifted everything that Celtic has won since being there and almost in the team nearly each game. b. Easily Henrik Larsson 750k and he scored over 150 goals for the Hoops. c. Again easy Rafael Schidht (prenounced shite) Brazillian Defender who got 1 Game and never got played again because he lived up to his second name. d. Reaching the final of the Uefa Cup 2003 because we had hard teams to knock out on the way Liverpool, Celta Vigo, Blackburn, Boavista etc e. Being put out of the Champions League by Shaktar Donesk getting beat 5-0 over in Russia and winning 4-0 in Glasgow..
Cult hero= Bergkamp or Ian Wright Best Buy= Robert pires. Cost fuck all and was a sound winger/CM Worst buy= David Sukor. Wc 1998's top scorer but did sweet FA for the Gunners Proudest moment= Winning the double. Twice. Most embarrasing= Having to battle it out with spurs for fourth place
Well.. I've only been watchin' football for the past two years, but I'll give this a shot anyway. a. Cult Hero - Alan Shearer... need not any explanation. b. Best buy since 1990 - Nolberto Solano! Was Shearer bought in the 90's? Then yeah, the dough we shelled it was well worth it. c. Worst buy - Albert Luque... He's got a lot of talent, but Roeder barely uses him. Now they're talkin' of selling him?! d. Club?s proudest moment - Shearer's setting the record of 200+ goals. e. Club?s most embarrassing moment - From what I've seen so far... Either gettin' knocked out of the UEFA Cup by some unknown team (my mates give me crap about that), or losing to Birmingham in the FA Cup, or the NUMBER OF INJURIES THIS SEASON!
