On Thursday My school was introduced to a Vertical tutor group idea. Of course none of us liked it and people planned a protest as a result. It was planned to be a nice peaceful protest but people were determined on turning it into some sort of riot Heres the article from the Evening herald: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">A college vice-principal has defended proposed changes in lessons which sparked a walk-out by at least 950 students yesterday.Simon Crawford, vice-principal at Eggbuckland Community College, said that the changes to tutor groups had been suggested by Ofsted. Youngsters, some waving banners, boycotted class to stage a demonstration against a plan to have some mixed-age tutor groups. Then after that it got violent and resulted in multiple pockets of fights Police were called shortly after 11am and were quick to deter the problem children. The school said the protest was a black day in their history. Eventually students returned from the protest on the sports field to return to lessons. However, some students who contacted the Herald's website claimed the protest continued through the morning and involved hundreds of people. Some parents came to pick up their children from school early. The youngsters were upset about a proposal to introduce a system of 'vertical tutoring', with 11 and 12-year-olds joining tutor groups alongside students aged up to 16. But Mr Crawford said that the tutorials would only take 30 minutes each morning and represented only five per cent of curriculum time. He added: "It is something a lot of schools do and it was something suggested to us by Ofsted." Mr Crawford said that the groups would allow younger students to benefit from working with older students, while the older students boosted their confidence and leadership skills. He likened the set-up to a sports team with younger players gaining from lining up alongside more experienced competitors. Mr Crawford added that senior staff were considering whether to take disciplinary action against the students. Principal Miss Katrina Borowski said that could include exclusions. The protest broke out when the school organised a discussion on the proposed changes. A statement from the school said: "Many groups had extremely useful discussions with teachers and engaged fully in a mature and sensible debate. We were very pleased with this process and each group's opinion has been fully taken on board. "A small minority of students did not react in the way we would wish to this process and staged a brief 'sit in' on the school field. Behaviour was generally good and there were no serious incidents. The majority of these students calmly returned to their lessons when asked to do so and the remainder returned to lessons after discussions with senior staff." One Year 10 boy, who was carrying a home-made banner, told the Herald: "Year 10 students won't be able to mix with Year 7s - we'd rather socialise with our own year group." The boy was part of a large group of students who ran around the school campus yelling and cheering as teachers tried to chivvy them into class. Another Year 10 boy said: "We plan to keep protesting till they listen to us. Our parents agree with us and there are too many of us to exclude us all." A Year 11 girl said: "We don't think this is right, and we are doing this for our brothers and sisters as much as ourselves. Our tutor groups are like a family, and we don't want to be split up from our friends."</div> The funny thing is my year (11) won't be affected by this we just went to miss lessons Downpoint is possible expulsion for me but i doubt it
