Well why not? Milan use Kaka as a support striker who plays just behind Gilardino. Why not use Gerrard and Crouchy/Kuyt up front and use Pennant and Kewell/Gonzalez on the wing. Stick with Mash and Xabi in the middle. It would give Gerrard more freedom to attack like Kaka does.
I think AC Milan will play a one dimensional game. They do not have many options. They can not win the second ball, especially in the final third, so they won't win the aerial, physical battle. Gattuso will follow Gerrard throughout the game, and Benitez knows this. So, the team need to play well, as a team. As long as they dont play Gerrard on the right ill be happy. I hope Harry Kewell plays but i doubt it because i doubt he would be able to run out a full game.
It will be pretty much even on the midfield, but Im afraid AC Milan is more defensive and expirienced now than 2 years ago, plus Kaka has rised to the occasion, Milan have the Edge on this.
