    PREMIER LEAGUE ANNOUNCE NAME CHANGE

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">PREMIER LEAGUE ANNOUNCE NAME CHANGE
The Premier League and Barclays have announced that from the start of the 2007/08 season the competition name will change to the Barclays Premier League on a global basis.
The competition is currently known as the Barclays Premiership in the UK and the Barclays English Premier League overseas.

The decision was taken after extensive research with fans and other stakeholders during the Premier League's recent re-branding exercise showed the need for a single unified identity.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "We are confident that our simplified and strengthened global identity will help fans associate better with our fantastic competition."

Barclays President Robert E. Diamond Jr said: "We're delighted to be the title global sponsor of the Barclays Premier League because of its huge appeal among fans across the world.

"Introducing a single name for the competition presents our brand in a consistent way across the world."</div>

Good or bad idea? What do you prefer, Premiership or Premier League?

I call it both, just depends what comes out at the time. I guess most people do already call it the Premier League, even in England where it was supposed to be called the Premiership.

its probably another business decision. if it doesnt affect the quality of football the premiership, i mean the premier league, has then it doesnt bother me.

alot of ppl will still use premiership but

Doesn't sound like rugby at all to me, there's plenty of football leagues around the world called Premier League but in their own language so it's not really like rugby at all.

I dont care if it's called NatWest Premier League, Bank of England Premier League or whatever, aslong as we're there at the end of the season to lift it high and proud to the fans of Old Trafford.

I think this is a good move, it can now be nicely abbreviated like the catchy Scottish Premier League SPL to EPL.

You know for a fact anyway, that it'll take most dosy Man United fans about seven season before they call stop calling it the Premiership! [IMG]
