I'm getting seriously worried about the state of the academy structure at anfield. The american $$$s really are waving goodbye to any chance that young scouse talent may have of breaking into the first team set-up.

This is a real problem as far as im concerned. Liverpool pride themselves first and foremost on their scouse roots eg. gerrard and carragher. at 27 & 29 thier definitley not getting any younger and it doesn't look as though any replacements will be arising from the academy any time soon.

Big spending this summer is yet another step closer to slamming the door shut on any chance young scouse talent has at making it, unless hes a wayne rooney. Where's the next gerrard or fowler going to come from? i'd hate to see liverpool end up like arsenal. A liverpool team without scouse roots is unthinkable.

But the Youth team won the FA Youth Cup though...I'm sure a few of them would be in the 1st team unless Rafa buys plenty of players

Rafa seems like one of the coaches who likes to have younger players in his squad, but he can't get taken in by the cash that's in front of him. I'm sure there's a lot of talent in the Liverpool ranks that deserves to come into the first team squad, but these days most clubs go for transfers first, then the youth team.

It all depends on who benitez buys/selects for his squad.

at the end of the day, he wants trophies no matter how he gets it. unfortunately, that may mean that liverpool may become little france or little spain

Yeah its blame Rafa and the Yank maybe he will give some players from the youth teams a break through but he will know he has the cash not to bring through players and learn them he can go to the La Liga or Serie A or any other European country in the world and get someone who is young but plays great.

I dont think their is anything wrong with them aquiring foreigners into their team, just as long as you win trophies...I personally like to watch matches where their is several national players involved, I think it improves the game...just look at Arsenal, I dont think anyone in the Prem has played footy as good as them since aquiring french players and other nationalities, I think the typical English Football team is just a memory being held by Liverpool. Maybe its something they need to experiment, it has benifited Manu and Arsenal, Chelsea.
