Does it seem fair that Inzaghi gets the credit for the goal at the end of the first half? If that had hit a Liverpool defender, Pirlo would've had his name up on the score sheet, for hitting a great free kick that eluded the wall and took a lucky touch. Bit since it hit his teammate, Pippo gets the credit? It seems some consistency is in order. Discuss.
There is consistency, if the shot is on target then it goes to the player who took the shot if the shot is off target then it goes to the player who deflected the ball.
I think it all depends and should always be reviewed behind closed doors to determine who gets credit.. If the deflection is what beat the keeper then I say its either an own goal if it hit the defender or a goal for the attacking player who it deflected off. If the keeper had to chance regardless (out of position etc) then I say the person who made the initial strike should get the credit.
I dont think the person it deflects off gets the credit because if you see someone hitting a shot and the defender tries to block it they dont get an own goal but maybe Inzaghi got the goal credit cause he totally changed the direction of the ball.
wel in this case, it was Inzaghis because if you have a look at the replay reina was going to get the ball from the innitial free kick. inzaghi deflected it the wrong way. but yea, it all depends on if the ball is going in or not before the deflection
what dan said and also if the keeper is definitely gonna get it but it takes a deflection and misplaces the keeper then it would go to the deflector
