According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff?s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.

Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday?s live event in Beaumont, Texas, and WWE?s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.

Authorities representing the Sheriff?s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit?s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.

At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities? findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.

WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.

The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation?s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff?s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.</div>

The WWE made the tribute show for him before they found out it was a double murder-suicide and apparently they've been bombarded with people complaining because in the eyes of the law he is a criminal and RAW got pulled from every country where it hadn't yet been shown because of it.

Even though he did what he did, it's still sad to see it happen and to see him go.

He did do it. It's been confirmed that he strangled his wife first, the next day he suffocated his son and then killed himself the day after that. I can't remember how he killed himself though. Very tragic, people were even blaming steroids for making him act this way but they've denied that it was that.

I doubt it was. People are just saying that because he's a wrestler IMO. My mum has just been saying that he's a criminal for doing it and things like that.

Something isn't right here, Benoit.. a murderer? I dont believe, didnt believe it when I read it and I will never believe it. I met Benoit when he came over to our Odyssey Arena for a live event and he was a great guy, I think the police have got this wrong.

Well Flight in 2003 his wife reported him beating her up.. severly.. and also its supposed to be a roid rage so if he couldnt control he might of went into deep depression and his wife and son might have said something and he might have snapped then reliasing what he done, he killed himself...

he hung himself.. and his motive for doing so was him and his wife both wanted custody of their kid because they were getting divorced and his wife didnt let him so he strangled her, smothered his kid with a pillow then hung himself.. as such a big role model for kids i cant believe he did soemthing like that.. sad stuff though

Every so often you hear about guys killing their pregnant wives and girlfriends, or mothers selling their kids to feed their meth and/or crack habits.

If I were to ever become a politician my one issue that I'd love to have work would be to take all of the people who try and cheat the government out of money, the criminals, and the drug addicts who have had chance after chance to make good but never do be put onto the front lines in a war that America is in. But instead of just giving them a weapon, I'd have them be unarmed and make them walk through mine fields so we can figure out where they are buried. If they don't die, well, they will have at least served for a good human purpose because they all seem to have a death wish, and you may as well use it to the advantage of our society and other nations instead of wasting tax payer dollars sitting in a jail cell or causing harm to others.
