Arsenal have confirmed that Jose Antonio Reyes has joined Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed fee.

Reyes, who is set to sign a four-year deal, will have a medical on Tuesday before being officially unveiled.

Atletico were seen as favourites to sign the 23-year-old for a reported ?6m after Real Madrid apparently refused to offer more than ?4m.

Reyes was on loan with Real last season and scored the vital goals against Mallorca to help the side to La Liga.

An Arsenal statement said: "Everyone at Arsenal thanks Jose Antonio for his contribution to the club and wishes him the best of luck for the future."

The winger was close to joining Atletico last summer, signing a pre-contract deal, before opting to join city rivals.

Lyon also made a bid for Reyes, who cost Arsenal ?10.5m when he arrived from Sevilla four years ago, but they all but admitted defeat after the player said he wanted to remain in Spain.

Reyes, who has won 21 caps for Spain, made a total of 110 appearances for the Gunners and scored 23 goals.

He made 30 appearances with Real, mostly as a substitute, and scored six league goals.</div>

Ugh, that seemed to come out of no where...

Another good player leaving the ranks of Arsenal, but Jose has got to be the biggest crybaby in Premier League History. *they tackle too hard* boo hoo.

Yeah... I agree. But to Atletico?! I thought that he would have a better future at Arsenal... Or maybe he is too pussy.

He never deserved to playin the premiership. It was inevitable that he was leaving, but i think everyone thaught it would be Real that we went to.

It's not very unexpected, we all knew he was going to leave and Atletico have already bought Simao, Luis Garcia, Diego Forlan and Raul Garcia after losing Torres and Petrov, so they obviously wanted to strengthen their squad even more and Reyes, along with the other signings, will most likely make up for the losses and maybe even help Atletico be better than they were.

Im suprised he chose to go to Athletico. I thought maybe Real would be ideal to him. But Arsenal won't miss him. They have quality players in the flanks like Hleb and Rosicky.

Yeah, apparently he was about to move to Atletico last year but then he went on loan to Real and he felt like he owed it to the fans and the club so he wanted to move there now and he has.

Pfft, owed us. You can get rid of the loan by going to another club! [IMG]
