If a boy, let's call him John asks his dad, Gary. For a chocolate bar every time Gary goes to the local shop to get some beer/cigarrettes but Gary never buys him one. Then one time John doesn't ask Gary for a chocolate bar, because he doesn't want one. Gary still assumes that John wants one so Gary buys John a chocolate because he didn't nag him for a chocolate bar.
