    Devil Rays down Orioles for series sweep

    <h3>TAMPA BAY 8, BALTIMORE 6</h3>BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Josh Wilson had three hits and CarlCrawford plated the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as theTampa Bay Devil Rays defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 8-6, onThursday.


    Devil Rays starter Scott Kazmir (11-8) allowed five runs - fourearned - and scattered seven hits over five innings. Thelefthander struck out five and walked three as Tampa Baycompleted its first series sweep on the road since August 2005against the Cleveland Indians.


    With the game tied at 5-5 in the sixth inning, Wilson reached ona single against Baltimore starter Jeremy Guthrie (7-5) withone out and moved to second on a bunt by Josh Paul. AkinoriIwamura followed with a ground ball to shortstop Miguel Tejada,who flipped the ball to second baseman Brian Roberts to turn thedouble play. However, Iwamura beat the relay throw to firstand the inning continued.


    Crawford followed with a ground ball that found its way betweenfirst and second, allowing Wilson to score, giving Tampa Bay a6-5 lead.


    Scott Dohmann and Dan Wheeler bridged the gap to Al Reyes, whopitched the ninth for his 22nd save of the season.

    Guthrie gave up six runs - five earned - on eight hits over sixinnings for the Orioles. The righthander struck out six andwalked three as Baltimore finished their 10-game homestand witha 1-9 record.


    The Orioles held a 3-0 lead after Nick Markakis hit his 15thhome run of the season, a three-run blast in the first inning.

    The Devil Rays gained the lead with a four-run third. Wilsonled off the inning with his first home run of the season tobegin the rally. Guthrie got the next two batters out beforeCrawford hit a ground-rule double to left field and Carlos Penawalked. B.J. Upton followed by putting the Devil Rays on top,4-3, with his 21st home run of the season.


    The lead didn't last long as Kevin Millar hit a two-run home runin the bottom of the inning to put the Orioles back on top.Tejada singled with one out before Millar hit his 14th home runof the season, giving Baltimore a 5-4 lead.


    The Devil Rays evened the score in the fourth. Brendan Harriswalked to lead off the inning and advanced to third when Tejadafielded a ground ball by Wilson but threw the ball away atfirst. Paul laid down a perfect bunt, allowing Harris to scoreand tie the game.


    After taking the lead in the sixth, Iwamura added an insurancerun on his fifth home run of the season in the eighth and GregNorton hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth, pushing the lead tothree.


    The Orioles tried to rally in the ninth after Tike Redman ledoff the frame with a single and stole second after Robertsstruck out. Corey Patterson plated Redman with a double to theleft-center field gap, but Reyes got Markakis to strike outbefore Tejada flied out to end the game.

    Devil Rays down Orioles for series sweep

    <h3>TAMPA BAY 8, BALTIMORE 6</h3>BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Josh Wilson had three hits and CarlCrawford plated the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as theTampa Bay Devil Rays defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 8-6, onThursday.


    Devil Rays starter Scott Kazmir (11-8) allowed five runs - fourearned - and scattered seven hits in five innings. Thelefthander struck out five and walked three as Tampa Baycompleted its first series sweep on the road since August 2005against the Cleveland Indians.


    "Nice game," Devil Ray manager Joe Maddon said. "Kazmir didn'thave his best stuff, but the bullpen was outstanding andpermitted us to win the game."


    "You are going to have days like this," Kazmir said. "I battledand the offense picked us up."


    With the game tied at 5-5 in the sixth inning, Wilson reached ona single against Baltimore starter Jeremy Guthrie (7-5) withone out and moved to second on a bunt by Josh Paul. AkinoriIwamura followed with a grounder to shortstop Miguel Tejada, whoflipped the ball to second baseman Brian Roberts to start thedouble play.


    However, Iwamura beat the relay throw to first and the inningcontinued.


    Crawford followed with a ground ball that found its way betweenfirst and second, allowing Wilson to score, giving Tampa Bay a6-5 lead.


    Scott Dohmann and Dan Wheeler bridged the gap to Al Reyes, whopitched the ninth for his 22nd save of the season.
